Ratings News: ECW draws lowest rating of the year against U.S. presidential election coverage Nov 6, 2008 - 5:49:15 PM
WWE's ECW on Sci-Fi from Tuesday night averaged a 0.9 household rating and 1.27 million viewers. The show was opposed by the U.S. presidential election coverage that dominated cable TV throughout Tuesday night.
ECW dipped below 1.0 for the first time this year after hovering around the 1.0 mark in May and June. However, compared to just two weeks ago, the viewing audience dropped 33 percent when the Oct. 21 show averaged 1.9 million viewers.
Caldwell's Analysis: This was expected up against a historical night of U.S. presidential election coverage. That's the broad picture. Specifically related to ECW, there was simply no hook for this week's show. WWE had three hours of Raw the previous night to entice new viewers or returning viewers to check out a pleasant hour of TV the next night, but WWE failed to provide any reason to tune into ECW.
Also, losing Evan Bourne is a major, major blow to the ECW brand. He was a breath of fresh air to the broadcasts on Tuesday nights, much the same way C.M. Punk was when he first came on the WWE scene about three years ago.
