WWE News: Vince McMahon evaluates John Cena's rap CD; says who scripted Mae Young birthing a hand Nov 3, 2008 - 1:32:48 PM
Vince McMahon showed off some personality and wit in an interview with WBCN 104.1 in Boston to promote the three-hour Raw tonight celebrating 800 episodes.
McMahon talked about WWE having to adhere its product to the audience on a small-scale and large-scale with the wrestlers needing to listen to the live audience while in the ring and WWE, as a whole, needing to change with the times over the last 15 years to remain a strong TV franchise.
The interview actually started with a discussion of Mae Young and the late Fabulous Moolah. McMahon had the following tongue-in-cheek comments to say about the attraction of Mae Young.
"Mae is still going strong at the age of...whatever it is...somewhere around dirt," McMahon deadpanned to Toucher and Rich. "She's really going strong and for some reason, she has this sexuality about her even at 87. She just exudes this magnetism and sexuality. She draws the audience in. Everyone on the entire roster just gravitates toward her."
McMahon was then asked about the storyline of Mae Young giving birth to a hand via Mark Henry. "It just happened that way," McMahon said. "They copulated and out comes a hand."
The interview turned to Boston-area star John Cena about his rap career. McMahon said Cena sold about half-a-million CDs, then he critiqued the efforts behind the CD. "It was decent," McMahon said. "I thought it was good for someone who's never done it before, like his first movie, 'The Marine.'"
McMahon said Cena is an extremely talented kid and an outstanding human being. He asked the hosts if they played Cena's CD when it came out and they said they made fun of it, which McMahon said that's okay because that's what they're about.
This led to the following exchange with classic McMahon humor.
Toucher and Rich: "You must have people all the time coming up to you at the most inappropriate places saying, 'Dude, make me the next Rock.' Has there ever been a scenario where you remember thinking, 'There's no possible way you could ever be a wrestler'?"
McMahon: "Yes, as a matter of fact, it was at the old Boston Garden and I was standing at a public urinal."
"Oh God, really?"
"No, not really, but it sounds like a good story."
"I was about to say, what is Vince McMahon doing in a public bathroom?"
"I'd ask myself the same question."
Caldwell's Analysis: Definitely check out the podcast interview below, as McMahon showed off a rare comic side to his personality in an entertaining interview. McMahon didn't touch on hot topic issues other than promoting Raw tonight and Survivor Series in Boston later this month, but it's worth a listen.
