Vintage Audio Interview: Keller interviews WWE Hall of Famer Ricky Steamboat, revealing insider interview (75 min.) Mar 4, 2009 - 4:09:04 PM
Each month in 2009, we are now presenting as an exclusive for PWTorch VIP members "Vintage Audio Talk Talks," never-before-heard audio versions of our vast library of interviews dating back to the late 1980s. Each month, one new Audio Talk is made available - for that month only. In January, it was "British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith (1993). In February, it was Hulk Hogan (2002). In March, it is Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat (1995).
In this 75 minute interview, conducted May 29, 1995 by Torch editor Wade Keller, Rick Steamboat reveals his feelings on his fallout with the WWF after his standout match with Randy Savage at WrestleMania III. He goes into detail on the politics and his theories on why things went down the way they did afterward. He also talks about his 1995 fallout with WCW, with details on contractual differences and what especially irked him about how it was all handled. He also discusses his classic matches with Ric Flair, with some surprisingly candid comments about what it was like to wrestle Flair. The interview spans his entire career, from his training in Minnesota to his days in the Mid-Atlantic, the WWF, and WCW. He also lists his favorite wrestlers to work with, and much more!
This interview was originally published in the Pro Wrestling Torch Newsletter in five installments in 1995. The audio has not been heard until this month. Act now, though, because this audio interview will not go into our permanent archives, but instead will be removed and replaced with a new Vintage Audio Torch Talk in April.
