TORCH TRIVIA 1/25: Answer to what Mike Tyson said about Shawn Michaels at the 1998 Royal Rumble PPV Jan 26, 2009 - 2:10:10 AM
Original question: As part of the program to set up the WrestleMania 14 involvement of Mike Tyson in the Shawn Michaels vs. Steve Austin WWE Title match, Tyson appeared at the 1998 Royal Rumble to survey Austin's Rumble victory and Michaels's WWE Title victory over The Undertaker in a casket match. Prior to the main event HBK vs. Taker match at the Rumble, what line did Tyson comically say about Michaels?
(a) "He's a dreamer. I have to dream and reach for the stars, and if I miss a star then I grab a handful of clouds."
(b) "He's going to gut him like a fish."
(c) "He'll win because of the chaps."
(d) "He's a young, up-and-coming tiger."
The answer is (d) "He's a young, up-and-coming tiger.". The answer was not (b), as many Torch Trivia players guessed, but that was a quote he used at another time. More on that later. I grabbed options (a) and (b) from a website of Mike Tyson quotes and threw in (c) as my own random quote while putting 1997 instead of 1998, but the correct answer is Tyson calling Michaels a "young, up-and-coming tiger."
Torch expert Dusty Robinson went the logical SAT route of process of elimination to land on (d) as the correct answer: I think James fooled almost everybody with (b) "he's going to gut him like a fish" because Tyson said that before his last boxing match ever against Kevin McBride. From what I heard when Michael Cole asked Tyson about the Undertaker-Shawn Michaels match, he was indifferent about it. If he was, then why would he say (b)? So, I'm going with (d) "he's a young up-and-coming tiger". That would be funny because Shawn has been wrestling since the '80s and Shawn had been wrestling over ten years at the time.
Yes, indeed, it was quite funny because it was Tyson and he was talking about Shawn Michaels. Good efforts from everyone, and through the process of elimination, Dusty managed to keep his streak alive at 21 straight, breaking a tie with Robert Rich, who was at 20 straight, but went with (b). And to think, I never thought I would break that tie. Props to Robert for a heck of a run.
