Original question: The time was December 2000 and WCW was just a few months away from being sold to WWE chairman Vince McMahon. In the final WCW Starrcade from December 17, 2000, which current TNA Main Event Mafia member won the PPV main event match to retain the WCW Title?

(b) Scott Steiner
(c) Kevin Nash

The answer is (b) Scott Steiner. WCW World Hvt. champion Scott Steiner defeated Psycho Sid in 10:00 to retain the title, just a month before Sid's gruesome ankle injury at the January 2001 WCW Sin PPV. Meanwhile, Kevin Nash teamed with DDP to defeat Chuck Palumbo & Sean Stasiak, and Sting and Booker T were not on the card.

Let's go to Dusty Robinson for a recap of what was happening in WCW at the time. ... Steiner had just beaten Booker T for the title at Mayhem. I remember the events leading up to Starrcade - Ric Flair was the new person in charge storyline-wise and said that Steiner would have to beat a former World Champion, which led to Steiner infamously saying, "Who is it going to be, Steve Austin? I kicked his ass every time he was in WCW."
