WEEKEND REPORT: Smackdown ratings, WWE TV taped tonight, Royal Rumble in HD, Torrie Wilson's store Dec 29, 2007 - 1:50:16 PM
James Caldwell reports on various news from around wrestling during the weekend.
Updated Saturday, December 22
1:50 p.m. WWE Smackdown on the CW from last night averaged a 2.5 rating. It was a best-of show, so the drop from last week's big 2.9 rating isn't significant. CW finished in last place for the night with a first hour 2.5 and second hour 2.6.
- WWE tapes TV tonight in Greensboro, N.C. (Raw) and Baltimore, Md. (Smackdown/ECW). Flair vs. Triple H in Flair's possible retirement match will headline the Raw taping. It's Flair Country, and the close friends have had two weeks to prepare for the match, so it should be a classic unless they do an angle with one taking a fall for the other. We're looking for reports on the next week of TV being taped tonight.
- ROH's final two shows of 2007 start tonight in New York City with Nigel McGuinness defending the ROH Title against Austin Aries. The other top matches include the Briscoes defending the ROH Tag Titles against Roderick Strong & Rocky Romero, Bryan Danielson vs. Morishima, and Claudio Castagnoli vs. Chris Hero in a match where Claudio leaves ROH if he loses. We're certainly looking for reports from tonight and tomorrow's shows.
- Media blog engadget has an article on the Royal Rumble PPV in January being WWE's first PPV broadcast in High Definition. The article says Time Warner Cable is preparing to broadcast the PPV in HD on its cable systems.
- A local paper here in Houston has an article on Torrie Wilson's new clothing store opening outside of Houston in The Woodlands. Torrie moved to Houston a year ago and says she couldn't find her type of clothes. So, she opened a new store called Jaded with her boyfriend, Nick Mitchell, who was Mitch of the Spirit Squad.
