ROH Flashback
April 27, 2002
Philadelphia, Pa. at the Murphy Rec. Center

Ring of Honor ran its third-ever show featuring a tribute to Eddie Guerrero, who was returning to WWE at the time...

(1) Da Hit Squad beat Christopher Street Connection (w/Allison Danger) and Prince Nana & The Servant (w/Simply Luscious) in a three-way.

(2) Jay Briscoe beat Tony Mamaluke. Briscoe won with a double underhook piledriver.

(3) Divine Storm (w/Brian XL) beat Joey Matthews & Christian York.

(4) James Maritato beat Scoot Andrews and Xavier in a three-way. Maritato is the former Little Guido. Late in the match, Maritato attempted to pin Andrews. Xavier jumped from the top rope toward Maritato, who saw him and ended up catching him in the Fujiwara armbar for the submission win.

(5) Low Ki beat A.J. Styles. An unbelievable match that featured stiff moves and solid mat wrestling. In the end, Styles went for a crucifix powerbomb, but Low Ki countered with a small package. The referee counted the pin even though Styles's shoulders weren't down for the entire three-count. The crowd chanted bullshit, but eventually gave both wrestlers a standing ovation. Just an incredible match.

(6) H.C. Loc & Tony Devito beat Dunn & Marcos in a total squash.

(7) Donovan Morgan beat Christopher Daniels. Solid old-time wrestling highlighted this match. Morgan ended up winning the match with his version of Daniels's finishing move, "the Last Rights." Afterward, Daniels cut a promo saying that Morgan became a star by beating him. He warned Morgan that wrestlers such as Low Ki and American Dragon will try to stab him in the back backstage, and offered to watch his back.

(8) Paul London beat John Hope in a gauntlet match challenge.

(9) Michael Shane beat Paul London in the second gauntlet match.

(10) Spanky (Brian Kendrick) beat Michael Shane in the third gauntlet match. Shane bled hardway at one point during the match. Spanky tore the crotch of his pants and ended up wrestling with his pants torn from front to back, which got worse as the match went on. Spanky hit an Acid Drop-like move for the win. Spanky's Acid Drop causes his opponent to flip completely over on impact.

(11) Spanky beat American Dragon (Bryan Danielson/Daniel Bryan) to win the gauntlet challenge. A great performance by both wrestlers. Dragon delivered some brutal kicks and chops throughout the match, causing Spanky's chest to turn black and blue by the end of the match. In the end, Spanky hit the Acid Drop-like finisher for the win.

After the match, Spanky announced that he will be entering the ROH title tournament. Chris Daniels came out and announced himself as an entrant. Scoot Andrews came out and challenged Daniels to a first round match in the tournament. Xavier and Jay Briscoe also came out and announced their involvement in the tournament. Hysterically, Daniels looked at the crowd and asked who Briscoe and Xavier are. Prince Nana came out and said he should be the ROH champion. Low Ki came out and punched Nana, who crawled to the back. Low Ki took the mic and praised every wrestler in the ring other than Spanky. When it came time for Low Ki to talk about Spanky, he shook his head and started laughing. This segment lasted 20 minutes and brought the crowd down.

(12) Eddie Guerrero & Amazing Red beat Jose & Joel Maximo. All of the wrestlers came out to watch this match. Guerrero, who wore the WWF's Intercontinental Title belt, got a great reaction. He ended up winning the match for his team by giving Joel the Splash Mountain.

After the match, the crowd chanted, "Thank you, Eddie." Joel Maximo took the mic and told Guerrero it was an honor to wrestle him, adding that he will never forget it. Eddie took the mic and cut an emotional promo in which he said he "lost his family in court" earlier in the week. Brian XL came out and cut a heel promo on Guerrero, who responded by hitting him with a frogsplash. Guerrero took the mic again and closed the show by thanking the fans and wrestlers for being his family.
