WWE Raw "Live & Loaded" overseas house show report
October 10, 2004
Cardiff, Wales
Report by Gareth Williams, PWTorch.com reader

Lillian Garcia welcomes the fans and makes note that this is Raw's first time in Wales (as a sidenote, Raw didn't exist the last time WWE was in Wales).

Lillian introduces Stacy as the guest ring announcer for the first match.

(1) Rhyno & Tajiri defeated Hurricane & Rosey. Good reactions for both teams, though the crowd was hot for everything tonight. That's what happens when you have to wait about 12 years between live shows, I suppose. Big "Rosey" chant in my section. Finish came when Rhyno hit the Gore on Rosey.

(2) Maven defeated Chuck Palumbo. Short match; another good reaction for Maven. Nobody really cared about Chuck, though - except one woman behind me who said "Don't worry, Chuck, I'll take you in." Finish came with a quick roll-up when Palumbo was arguing with the ref. Not a great match.

(3) Trish & Molly Holly defeated Victoria & Nidia. I have to be honest: I don't really remember the finish for this match. I'm pretty sure Trish got the pin on Nidia, but I've no idea how. It was short, but the crowd was into it for the most part. Everyone loves Trish, it seems.

(4) Shelton Benjamin defeated Val Venis. Decent pop for Val on his entrance, but he quickly established himself as the heel when he teased throwing his towel to the crowd, then refused. Val really got the crowd to hate him by constantly avoiding hooking up with Benjamin. On TV it would have been really annoying, but it worked in a house show setting - plus, it didn't go on that long. Very strong reaction for Benjamin, too. Loads of "Shelton" chants. I don't really remember the finish to this match, either, but it was a good match once it got going. A solid **1/2, anyway. Crowd sang the 'Goodbye' song to Val as he made his way up the aisle after the match.

(5) La Resistance defeated William Regal & Eugene to retain the Tag Titles. Before the match started there was an odd moment when the wrong entrance music played. In fact, nobody could figure out whose music it was. Anyway, there was a lot of heat on the champions, and a HUGE reaction for Regal and Eugene when they came out. Lot of funny spots before and during the match to really get the crowd into it (not that we needed helping that). Eugene endeared himself to the entire Welsh nation when he started waving a Welsh flag from out of the crowd. Enormous "Wales" chant for that.
Before the match started, Coach came out and said that Bischoff had sent him to be the special ref. Loads of heat on Coach. Good tag match; at one point Regal had the match won, but Coach stopped short of counting the three. Finish came when one of La Res (I think it was Conway) used the Quebec flag to hit Regal and get the pinfall. Eugene hit a Stunner on Coach after the match.

(6) Chris Jericho defeated Christian and Edge in a Triple Threat to retain the IC Title. Jericho got the biggest reaction thus far. Massive "Y2J" chants throughout. Before the match, Christian got on the house mic to run down the crowd. Everybody ate up his schtick. Match followed the usual 'two men in, one man out' formula of three-way matches. In fact, Edge hardly seemed in the match at all, to the point that was a huge ovation when he finally made it back into the ring. This was good length match, very fast paced. Tyson Tomko (who accompanied Christian) was ejected from ringside by the ref, giving us Welsh fans another chance to sing the 'Goodbye' song (well, we are called the Land of Song - hell, we were even singing along to the entrance themes).
Finish came when Christian tapped to the Walls of Jericho.

(7) Gene Snitsky defeated Kane via DQ (I think). At least, that's what I think happened. This match was short and it was ugly. Everyone was surprised that Snitsky was even here. Kane got a good reaction. At one point he threatened to do to Snitsky what he did to HBK a few months back - the whole chair around the throat bit - until a hoard of refs came out to stop him. Either Kane or Snitsky threw the ref out of the ring and was disqualified, but I can't remember who. The less said about this match the better. But it's a testament to the crowd that this match didn't kill them dead before the main event. Speaking of which...

(8) Randy Orton & Chris Benoit & Shawn Michaels defeated Batista & Ric Flair & Triple H. Everyone in this match got a massive reaction... except Batista. Poor Dave. As the guy sitting next to me said, "There's four legends in this match and one legend-in-the-making. Oh, and Batista." Evolution came out separately, allowing Ric Flair to get the biggest reaction of the night. Until, that is, HBK came out and blew the roof off the place. In fairness, though, all the babyfaces got great pops from the Cardiff crowd. Match was excellent, and long too - but not overly so. Orton kept trying for the RKO throughout the match, so when he finally hit it on Batista for the pinfall, there was an enormous cheer. Loads of funny spots in here, too, but some great action also. Flair was on great form.

Notes: All in all it was a great show from the Raw guys (and gals). Hopefully the super-hot crowd (and the quick sellout) will be enough to convince WWE not to wait over a decade before they come back to Wales next. And when they do, hopefully they won't list it as "Wales, England" on their website. This is like saying to a Canadian that he comes from "Canada, USA".

BIGGEST POPS:
1. Shawn Michaels.
(After this it's hard to judge because the crowd was happy to everyone)
2. Ric Flair
3. Chris Jericho
4. Eugene
5. Chris Benoit / Randy Orton (about equal)

MOST HEAT:
1. Christian (especially for his pre-match promo)
2. La Resistance
3. Coach
4. Triple H - but only sporadically during his match. He was cheered for his entrance.
5. Trish, when she put her t-shirt back on.
