World Championship Wrestling
October 6, 1994
Greensboro, N.C. - Coliseum Annex Estimated Attendance: 1,500
By Bruce Mitchell, PWTorch Columnist

Ric Flair made his last appearance in the city he made into a wrestling mecca during the '70s and '80s. He faced Sting in the main event in front of a listless crowd of less than 2,000, a crowd that for the most part had no idea what it was really witnessing.

A few signs in the crowd, that Flair subtly acknowledged, reflected the reality of the situation. Flair lost after interference from both Sherri Martel and Steve Austin backfired. This was the only match on the card to draw any real interest. The crowd was perhaps in favor of Flair in a 60-40 split. Flair was, by a large margin, the best performer on the show, showing fire and workrate that left everyone but Sting looking lifeless. (***1/2)

The rest of the show was a dull, lifeless reflection of the state of the WCW house show in 1994.

Opener: Alex Wright "fought" Bobby Eaton to a 15 minute draw. Wright has quite the gimmick with that "Germany's youngest wrestler" moniker. The crowd reacted to his entrance as if the ring boy arrived, leaving the impression that even paying customers never watch WCW television. Wright may have potential and Bobby Eaton used to be a great wrestler, but this was a stunningly bad match. Eaton held an armbar 40 seconds into the last minute before the two finally stood up for a weak near fall. (DUD)

Again: Johnny B. Badd beat Lord Steven Regal. If you haven't seen this match the 47 times they've shown it on television then you probably aren't interested in reading about it, either. (*)

Tag Team Excitement: Stars & Stripes beat Pretty Wonderful in a non-title tag team match when they did that cute little thing where opposing partners kept reversing cradles. The WCW tag team ranks are a generic bore. (*)

"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan beat "Stunning" Steve Austin in a match where neither...

*****WE INTERRUPTED THIS REPORT FOR A SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT*****

FINAL LIQUIDATION! EVERYTHING MUST GO! IN WITH A BANG, OUT WITH A WHIMPER BANKRUPTCY SALE, ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY THE LAST "FRONT ROW SECTION D" (remember?) STORY EVER!

As Duggan came to the ring, a guy held up a sign that said, "Duggan, you're talking about your mother - a hoooah." Duggan snickered and, as he walked around ringside, looked the guy in the eye and said, "You've got a lot of class holding that sign with all of these kids around." And if getting a lecture about children from a former Whiff star wasn't bad enough, Duggan totally showed up the Section when, later, he leaned over the rope and did a Rick Rude hip swivel, wink, and kiss to the poor sign bearer's wife. Quite a sight. (****)

WE NOW RETURN YOU TO THE REPORT ALREADY IN PROGRESS...

...guy touched the other for five whole minutes. Austin was disqualified for posting Duggan in a merciful killing. (DUD)

Semi-Main Event The Nasty Boys & Dustin Rhodes beat Arn Anderson & Bunkhouse Buck & Col. Parker (w/Meng). They pulled a "Bockwinkel" and explained why Terry Funk wasn't there and thus Parker had to wrestle instead of Meng. Huh? (**)
