WWE Raw Reax 2/18
Jason Stockdale of Queens, N.Y. (6.5): Best: Shield vs. Superfriends. Worst: The male portion of the mixed tag. Tonight was apparently the start of a really slow build to Mania. As in, nothing big happened. I was surprised by Funkadactyl Naomi's athleticism. Swagger should not speak, ever. The new belt is better than the "spinner" belt, but both look pathetic next to the World Title. Too bad the World Title is a joke. Bring back the 1988-1998 eagle belt that became the hardcore belt!
Kreig of San Francisco, Calif. (8.0): Best: Opening/Ending. Worst: State of the Union Address. Throughout Raw, the story with Cena - the underachiever looking strong at the beginning of the show - to Cena being attacked by Punk at the end gave me an idea that a double finish is going to occur in their match next week, which will make it a three-way match at Mania. Or, WWE has totally swerved us... I'm really confused about the Swagger angle. While it reminds me of the JBL-Eddie Guerrero program some years back, it's not interesting at all... I thought Ziggler vs. Del Rio was a mistake, and I don't know where the Ziggler's character is going right now, especially because I don't see him cashing in MITB any time soon... The Ryback/Sheamus segment teased a turn by Ryback, but I think it's going to be Sheamus eventually turning... Finally, I think we can say Undertaker is not wrestling Punk at Mania and that an appearance by both Triple H and Brock Lesnar will likely happen in the Vince/Heyman match next week to get that program started... Overall, next week's Raw is huge; it has to be because they lost me this week.
Matt of Westbrook, Maine (8.0): Best: Shield vs. Jericho & Sheamus & Ryback, plus Mark Henry. I ordered the PPV Sunday night and I must say that it's very refreshing to see The Shield's style in the ring. Shield is a better tag team then the whole tag team division, which is sad to say. And, Seth Rollins is phenomenal... I believe Cena putting up his Rumble win against Punk is lame. It would have been better if Punk jumped both Rock and Cena. At least that would make sense to have a three-way match at Mania, not Cena vs. Punk. Again. ... Mark Henry is a beast. He made the Chamber match and I love his relentless beatdowns on everyone... Why was Heyman scared of fighting Vince? He's coming off hip surgery and he's almost 70. Heyman should have been laughing... I'm not sure how I feel about the new title belt. It's about time WWE debuted a new belt, and with Rock holding it, the title does have clout, but it looks clunky and over the top. Even for WWE. Who knows, maybe it will grow on me. Mania season is in full swing.
