-- 8/31 WWE NXT Reax

Doug Brown of Brenham, Tex. (5.0): Best Match: Triple Threat by default. As far as the competition goes, the right guy won. Kaval was the most talented of the group. I thought Alex Riley should have finished second, but I had to laugh when he was eliminated. The Triple Threat match was good, but I'm getting really sick of the one guy does all the work, and then another guy steals the victory finish. Lately, it seems like nearly all of WWE's Triple Threat or Fatal Four-way matches have used that finish, and it's become old after a while. ... The brawl at the end came across forced. What would have been cool is if, after they laid Kaval out, they would have put on Nexus armbands, and then had a surprise appearance by Wade Barrett. Then, things would have made sense. As for Season Three, I can't believe anyone actually thinks an all-Divas season is going to work. They must be attempting to kill off what little audience this show does have. I still don't get their fascination with Vickie Guerrero. When she comes on, I usually change the channel. How is she supposed to be a Pro to a prospective Diva when she doesn't wrestle? And how about that top that her Rookie, Aloisa, was wearing? I thought they were about to up the TV rating to MA. Why not have Beth Phoenix as her Pro? To me, that would have been the more natural pairing.

Robert Komisar of Santa Barbara Calif. (7.0): Best Match: Three-way by default. Worst Match: Three-way by default. I have seen every episode of both seasons and have generally enjoyed watching NXT, although a very large factor in my enjoyment was the fact that Low-Ki and Bryan Danielson were featured on WWE TV. Seeing the only two guys in the competition who were not products of the WWE "system" pretty much run away with the competition each season was hopefully a loud and clear message sent to Vince McMahon that it makes absolutely no sense to push one very specific wrestler type on the big stage. Danielson and Kaval were both put in positions to test them and see if they would fall on their faces on the big stage, and both of them passed with flying colors. Honestly, both Dragon and Low-Ki surpassed the expectations I had for each of them. As far as the rest of the show and the other Rookies from Season 2 goes, I have been thoroughly impressed with Alex Riley and Husky Harris. Mike McGilliHennig proved last night with those two horrendous promos that he really is missing something, as Cole mentioned several times. Those promos were simply awful. It was really interesting and cool to finally hear Michael Cole totally eat crow and admit that Kaval was the deserving winner and even admit his promo was pretty darn good, which it was. ... The introductions of the Divas for Season 3 were all right, and the inclusion of Goldust in the mix I think will actually add a lot to the show. They should really just let him carry the show. Additionally, the inclusion of Alouisa has me interested in tuning in. I thought it was hilarious during the show-closing botched brawl when Cole said they need some help out here, Mathews responded, "Somebody get Alouisa out here!" The brawl at the end was total botchamania. It seemed like it all fell apart when Riley mistakenly attacked Watson (I assume it was a mistake), Watson found himself standing on the outside with the Pros, then went back in the ring with the Rookies. I can forgive that mistake, as maybe they got caught up in the heat of the moment, but Titus O'Neil's total no-sell of MVP's Yakuza kick was atrocious. It wasn't even a "look how badass this guy is no-selling the big move!" type of no-sell. It was the "I am not aware that I am even supposed to sell this move or even how to properly sell it if I knew I was supposed to sell it!" type of no-sell. Titus seems like a really nice guy, but he makes David Otunga look like Ricky Steamboat by comparison. He just looks uncoordinated for professional wrestling and dangerous in the ring. The whole ending sequence was just awkward and screwed up.
