TORCH REAX: RADICAN responds to feedback on his TNA & ECW column

The following is a batch of reader feedback to PWTorch columnist Sean Radican's column on TNA's "Hardcore Justice" PPV.

HeymanPaul_130WK_1.jpg
Laura writes: Could this be a way to entice Paul Heyman into coming on board in TNA? He's the name I always think of when I remember ECW. I have read reports that Heyman has been approached to join TNA, but he wants full creative control. If that's true, wouldn't Dixie Carter putting "his boys" front and center be viewed as a sign of full cooperation?

RADICAN'S REPLY: Laura, I don't think the ECW guys getting the spotlight is a way to get Heyman on board. Heyman has a long history of getting over new talent, so I don't think he'd want TNA to be running this angle instead of focusing on the talent in TNA that hasn't been pushed. I think this is a sign that TNA president Dixie Carter is incompetent, to be blunt.

Scott writes: I read your take on the ECW invasion and I agree that TNA really doesn't have much to lose, but do they? I've been an ECW fan from Day One and nobody wanted to see them cut into WWE's bottom line more than me. However, I can't see for the life of me how guys like A.J. Styles, Kazarian, and the rest of TNA's roster can look at this as anything more than a slap in the face by bringing in guys who peaked out about ten years ago and parading them in their faces. The reason that TNA has not progressed has to do more with creative issues than talent. TNA needs to be honest with itself before it can deliver a true alternative to the fans!

RADICAN'S REPLY: I agree with everything you said here. My point was more that the ECW stars from ten years ago are more popular and I'd rather watch them than another TNA PPV that's poorly booked and treated as an afterthought. Nothing in TNA is going to change until someone new is given total creative control.

Mark writes: Great column! TNA's booking problems are many, but for one night, I look forward to the Hard Justice PPV. Hopefully, it will be a blast, and the former ECW wrestlers have a good night. Rob Van Dam vs. Jerry Lynn should be a great match. If you were booking the rest of the card, what matches would you like to see? Personally, I would like to see them re-visit the Terry Funk vs. Sabu matches. I also hope there is a tribute video chronicling the ECW performers who have died. The late John Kronus was part of one of my favorite tag teams, The Eliminators, along with Perry Saturn.

RADICAN'S REPLY: If I were booking the PPV, I would have Funk vs. Sabu, Dreamer vs. Raven vs. Sandman in a three-way, Lynn vs. RVD, and I'm having trouble coming up with the rest of the card with the wrestlers available. Maybe bring back the BWO with Richards taking on a team with Rhino Team 3D.

Sean from the U.K. writes: Very interesting points in the blog you just put out. One thing, though, as a fan of TNA in the U.K., which is probably where they are doing best in ratings, why is it that we get the shows two days late and the PPVs five days late and not live? Shouldn't they be focusing on where they are doing best since the U.S. market isn't as strong for TNA and coming over here more often?

RADICAN'S REPLY: They don't go over to the U.K. as often because they can't afford to on a regular basis. TNA runs most of their PPVs in Orlando now, along with all of their TV tapings. Every time they go outside of Orlando, they end up losing money or breaking even, at best, on PPVs. As for why the U.K. gets the shows two days late and the PPVs five days later, it's due to the TV deals they have overseas, plus they've found a strong timeslot on Saturday nights in the U.K. for Impact. I think you can watch the PPVs on your computer live for a low price through TNA's website.
