-- 7/16 WWE Smackdown Reax
Richard H. of Wilmington, Ohio: Smackdown attempted to prove that you do not need to have actual matches on an entire show to produce entertaining programming. They did not succeed. With the exception of the bit with Big Show and C.M. Punk, which I found very entertaining, the non-wrestling bits fell very flat.
I enjoyed the Show-Punk skit the most on the show, although the Ziggler-Hardy match was the best match. The Divas mixed tag match was horrible, especially the stupidest angle currently in wrestling (and that takes some serious stupidity) - the ridiculously fit and skinny Rosa Mendes trying to "get fit" by constantly jumping rope. Oh, and the WWE announcers need to be advised that you need two ropes being twirled simultaneously to be doing "Double Dutch," otherwise its just skipping rope. Some final thoughts: Drew McIntyre is getting better as long as he concentrates on his in0ring work and doesn't try to cut a promo. Swagger is also stronger in the ring than in the skits WWE constantly puts him in.
-- 7/16 Lucha Libre USA Reax
Michael Moore of Casper, Wyo.: I follow AAA in Mexico regularly, and I was not impressed with this show at all. It felt like a bad, low-budget attempt by an American (Mark Jindrak) to produce a lucha libre product. The wrestlers seemed bush league, the costumes were poor, the announcing was bad, and the crowd noise just made it difficult to watch. My guess is that American fans experiencing this for the first time and thinking this is lucha libre would probably feel the same as a Mexican fan watching Wrestling Society X and thinking that was representative of American wrestling.
-- 7/15 WWE Superstars & TNA Impact Reax
Sarah K. of Michigan: I record both Superstars and TNA Impact every week. I usually manage to watch all of Superstars with very little fast forwarding other than the recaps, which I see on Raw. My comment, in general, as it pertains to Superstars: I want a moratorium on appearances by the Bella Twins. Enough. I have seen the same terrible match with virtually the same participants three weeks in a row. This time, I just skipped to the next segment. ... Regarding Impact, I admit it, for the first time in about five years, Abyss was moderately interesting and cut a decent promo to start the show. But, by the end of the show, there was just too much of the same thing. If this angle progressed slower, it would be more satisfying to watch. ... I really didn't see anything being accomplished by Kevin Nash just squashing Brian Kendrick like a jobber after his match. ... The women's segment with the Beautiful People was awkward, but I'm not a fan of "wrestling mysteries" in general. ... I would like to think that they are no longer teasing a break between Desmond Wolfe and Chelsea.... Samoa Joe looked good in his match, and thank God he wasn't wearing a skort. ... The brawl that ended the show? I will give them credit for actually using the security present, but it was still underwhelming, confusing, and just generally weird. And I'm not interested in seeing Dixie Carter play a heel on my television. I liked the Flair promo, though, as short as it was.
Richard H. of Wilmington, Ohio (6.0 on Impact): Not a bad show, not bad at all. Mind you, it wasn't that great either. There were lots of highlights, like the tag ladder match, Knockouts street fight, and Williams-Kendrick. Of course, they were blighted by whatever was going on with Kevin Nash and Jeff Jarrett and the Beautiful People. ... The Guns (and Beer Money, to an extent) showed why they should be featured a heck of a lot more than they have been. ... Lethal continues to shine while Flair just gets older. ... Sarita and Taylor Wilde's brawl was better than a lot of street fights the competition has staged lately with their star male performers. ... Samoa Joe is the most agile, impressive big man to come down the road in a long time - so why can't TNA figure out how to use him? Overall, a solid effort with the Guns having the best match and Nash-Jarrett stinking up the joint.
-- 7/9 WWE Smackdown Reax
Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (7.0): Best: Serena apologizes to Punk; Christian/Hardy vs. Archer/Hawkins. Worst: Del Rio videos; Dolph vs. Chavo vs. MVP. This was a so-so episode of Smackdown. The storylines were nicely put together, but seemed to miss something to take them to the next level. Dolph winning the three-way was seen a mile away, although the booking of the match was nicely done. For once, Chavo is jobbing the right way. Alberto Del Rio needs to get in the ring because he's boring me now. He reminds me of a rejected version of the Razor Ramon character spiced with a bit of current Chris Jericho. There's potential in the character as long as it doesn't get too repetitive. The Straight Edge Society dynamic is way cool; Gallows stepped up big time to help their promo score big. Swagger as "Monster Kurt Angle" continues to work, although I really think Swagger should have his own natural identity. With the Kane finale, I'm all but convinced that Kane is still the culprit who took out Undertaker. If Glen Jacobs is on the road to retirement, I don't think Undertaker should be the one who ends the timeline.
