-- 2/18 TNA Impact Reax
John of Cocoa Beach, Fla., writer. (5.5 both shows): Worst Segment: Hogan/Abyss "intervention." Last night, I finally saw that, believe it or not, Rhino, Stevie Richards, Raven, Brian Kendrick, the Motor City Machine Guns, and Beer Money are still with the company! I'm still on the lookout for Sean Morley. Eventually, I see Eric Bischoff turning Jeff Jarrett heel. For what it's worth, many fans may not remember the late Dave Sullivan, or "Evad" from WCW in 1994, but in 2010, congratulations to Abyss, he's the new "Evad." If TNA seemingly is trying to compete with WWE on Mondays, don't go back to 1998. Let's go back to 1994. Let's sign Colonel Rob Parker, Bunkhouse Buck, and Terry Funk. Offer Meng and Blacktop Bully a contract too. What's Buff Bagwell's number? But, I was pleasantly surprised to see the big push D'Angelo Dinero, the former Elijah Burke, is getting, and the beat down he got from A.J. Styles and Ric Flair took me back to a day when JJ Dillon would verbally taunt and provoke Flair's babyface challenger. All hell breaks loose, babyface gets the upper hand, then the other Horsemen would assault the face and draw heel heat to set-up the future match. We now can officially welcome Daniels to the Job Squad. Next time there is a match between Daniels and Kurt Angle with Slick Johnson as the ref, have Hair Club for Men be the sponsor. I give Tara credit for taking a lot of those shots from Daffney including the guardrail. Tara has done the best by far of the former WWE Divas who have moved to being a Knockout. Can they also do something more original than to "kidnap" a wrestler, like they did with Samoa Joe? Was that the Nation of Violence? I noticed two work/shoot promo segments with Kurt Angle and Kevin Nash. I was really personally touched by Kurt's testimony, but the dog tags kind of imply a little subtle shot at John Cena and WWE. I like the work rate and storytelling Kurt and Ken Anderson do, but apparently Green Bay is now located in Canada? Great shoot promo by Nash regarding the history of Scott Hall and X-Pac. What intrigues me most is the apparently heelish Eric Bischoff as GM, and Hulk Hogan as a face chairman of TNA. Will they eventually butt heads about Abyss and Mick Foley?
-- 2/18 WWE Superstars Reax
Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (10.0): Best: Bourne/Primo vs. Carlito/Chavo. Worst: nothing. Superstars is officially the new red-headed stepchild of WWE. ECW was underappreciated for at least trying to make a decent wrestling show. Superstars is a simple package of decent matches and a few useful highlight videos. Carlito and Bourne had a very decent match a few weeks back. Adding Primo and Chavo worked just as well. Katie Lea deserves a better push. Her side of the matches have been good, including this one with Gail. Gail needed the win for momentum, something Katie Lea could use. I like the idea of muddying the waters on predicting a winner between Maryse and Gail. The commentators may have still given it away by focusing more on Maryse, though. Rey-Knox was a decent match, but we've seen it before. Knox is another underrated wrestler. He's got some agility for a big man. Thankfully they lost the Coke-bottle glasses part of his "mountain man genius" gimmick, but so much more could be done with "Grizzly Knox-Ums" if WWE bothered. More could be done with any of these people who were featured (Jericho included) if WWE bothered.
John of Cocoa Beach, Fla., writer (5.5 both shows): Best Match: Mysterio vs. Knox. On WWE Superstars - or should we call it Raw/Smackdown purgatory? - we saw Carlito & Chavo vs. Evan Bourne & Primo. What really is the purpose of Superstars? This is a show designed to give us by default an extra segment of Raw and Smackdown. Lately, the show has been Raw heavy, but the Smackdown main event with Rey Mysterio vs. Mike Knox was a pretty decent match. Knox is a big man with tons of potential, but he's still very vanilla, and gets no mic time to develop a character. At best, he looks like a bigger Hacksaw Jim Duggan from the early days of Mid-South Wrestling, with even longer hair and thicker beard. The only other thing I noted was an audio dub-in of the "injury" diagnosis of Bret Hart. The Divas match was a complete throw-away of Katie Lea and Gail Kim, though the final part with Maryse showing up added a little for the title match on Sunday.
