-- 11/15 TNA Turning Point PPV Reax

Justin Shook, student, (9.5): Best: Kurt Angle vs. Desmond Wolfe. Worst: Nothing. I got into TNA about a year ago. I watch impact every Thursday, but it wasn't until last night I took the plunge and bought a PPV. I'm a college student who works hard for every dollar. I can get one PPV a month if that. It came down to Turning Point vs. Survivor Series, and it was a no brainer. There was not a bad match on the card. Tara vs. Awesome Kong felt big time. Amazing Red vs. Homicide was a great opener, and I like Don West's role with Red. The tag title match was a fun outing, but I wish the Guns were given more time. Making the Steiner vs. Lashley match Falls Count Anywhere saved the match for me, as I am not a Lashley fan. The Knockouts Title match was fun and ODB came out looking strong. Tara vs. ODB should be great. Kurt Angle vs. Desmond Wolfe was the reason I bought this show and was also my favorite match of the night. Wolfe lost, but he came out looking so strong. Kurt looked amazing in the ring, and the six consecutive suplexes were insane. This was more then a match; it was a wrestling clinic. If we get Part 2 next month, then I know where my $35 is going. My second favorite, by an inch, was Styles vs. Joe vs. Daniels. Words don't do it justice. If you didn't see this PPV, buy it. The last two matches were worth the price alone. I give this a 9.5 because the tag match ending was weak, and the camera issues during Lashley-Steiner took away from the match. Everything else was perfect. As a side note, I would like to say the "you can't wrestle" chant directed at Lacey Von Erich and the "who needs Hogan" chant during the final match were laugh-out-loud funny.

Ian Denbow of Laurel, Md. (7.0): Best Match: Angle vs. Wolfe. Worst Match: All the hype for Hogan, but Hogan wasn't there! Let me start off by saying that this was a good-to-great pay-per- view. It was fairly decent heading into the final two matches, and those two helped it get to the mid-great category. I watched Turning Point starting with the awful pre-show and there was massive hype for Hulk Hogan. Obviously, this was TNA’s not-so-subtle way of trying to get people to buy the PPV for the chance to see him. I had already purchased it because I’m a massive Nigel McGuinness fan, but if I had ordered Turning Point on the possibility of seeing Hulk Hogan, I would be irate about now. They didn’t technically pull a bait and switch, but they might as well have. Here’s an idea – let’s sign the biggest name in wrestling history, hype him for weeks and say things are going to change, but not debut him at what has been the best pay-per-view for the company all year! When exactly are things going to change, 2012? I’m sure TNA knew that there were loads of people that ordered that PPV JUST to see Hogan, and how they could send all those people home disappointed is such a bad business move, it’s unreal. That said, the actual wrestling on this show was pretty decent. I know James Caldwell complained that Don West was distracting, and to a degree, he’s right. They made it so obvious that I almost expected TNA to jump the gun on the eventual West turn on Red, although I’m glad they didn’t. Both Red and Homicide put on a great show, although this should not have been the opener. I agree with others that it makes the X Division title look cheap by always having the bouts open events. I don’t necessarily understand the point of the veterans winning the six-man tag. Seriously, didn’t we just go through a year or so of this same feud, except now the World champion veteran Mafia members have been replaced with ECW alum? Here’s hoping it will lead to something cool, but this is TNA. Case in point – Nash’s vague promo. I’m not quite following that one either. I get the NWO reunion tease they are going for, but it almost seems just too obvious, and I can’t see them dumping the Hogan cash cow on its head so early on. They would need to bite the bullet and bring in Waltman and Hall I think if they went that route, and even then everyone’s too old to make it work, but I could be wrong. Steiner vs. Lashley was better than expected, although I honestly did expect Lashley’s wife to turn on him and become Steiner’s freak publicly. When she didn’t, and Steiner won the match, I figured we’d seen the end of Lashley, but judging by his facial expressions, we’ve unfortunately not. Wolfe vs. Angle was great, and easily the highlight of the night for me personally. Great mat wrestling clinic. Wolfe was given the ball, and he ran with it. This man will easily be the MVP of TNA in 2010, and I cannot wait to see him in a feud for the World Title. The triple threat for the TNA Title at the end was a great way to close the show. TNA spent so much time hyping their previous match that if this one had fallen flat, TNA would have a dozen eggs on their face. Luckily, they let three of the best in the business show why they are just that, and they put on a great match. Lastly, the crowd was great tonight. They really helped make this show feel special.
