Christi Lott of Garland, Tex. (7.0): Best Match: Taker vs. HBK Worst Match: Divas Battle Royal. The MITB was a great way to start the show and get fans excited. I was a little bummed to see Punk win but it was a nice surprise. Shelton Benjamin came out as the true star of the whole thing once again and deserves some serious recognition. The divas Battle Royal was a sad embarassment. The past Divas didn't get any recognition and having a man in drag win just shows how little the Divas matter. Matt Hardy winning was nice surprise and done in a good way. Cena winning was flat and uninteresting and the fans reaction reflected that as well. Triple H's win was also the same. Like me, they were expecting McMahons to come out, maybe even a heel turn from Stephanie due to the stipulation being against Triple H and not Orton. Neither match could follow the greatness that was HBK and Taker. It's obivous these two only have maybe one or two more WMs left in them, but man can they put on a show. Huge mistake by the WWE to not give these two the highlight, because putting it in the middle of the show gave away the result. An okay Wrestlemania.
James Beckwith of Nashville, Tenn. (7.0): Best Match: Undertaker-Michaels, Worst Match: Diva Battle Royal. The hype for this year's show was underwhelming and so was the show itself despite the score I gave it (WrestleMania should always be a 9 or 10). Taker-Michaels was absolutely incredible and should have closed the show. Money in the Bank was good but not as much as past years. Edge has to be disappointed working with Show and Cena as he is capable of much better matches than what those three produced tonight. The main event of the "25th Anniversary" of WrestleMania should have been on par with Taker-Michaels or even Rock-Hogan but alas we get a snoozer from Triple H. What a let down. And, yes, they could have followed Taker-Michaels and not disappointed and I bet Orton would love to have put on a match for the ages, but Triple H either doesn't have it in him anymore or he just doesn't care. As a side note there were way, way too many dangerous moves attempted tonight that came very close to
being disastrous.
Scott M. of Wisconsin (5.0): Best match HBK vs Taker. Worst match: Women's battle royal. My take on the event is probably a little different than most. I've not *watched* the WWE in just about two years now. I always read the recaps on torch as they are a better use of my time, but the local movie theater was showing it tonight and I went with a friend. My first thoughts are that damn, the WWE makes some really good video packages. I really liked the Michaels Undertaker hype. As for the matches.... MITB is always good and I think this was just "good". Early on it seemed like too much of a spotfest with everyone taking turns jumping on each other, but I was happy with the outcome and happy to see Christian so over again. The came Kid Rock. I honestly didn't even know he performed anymore. That was a big waste of time, there is nothing else you can say about it, really. The backup dancer in the yellow shirt looked like she was on speed and the other one looked like bar-trash. I also loved how the drummer looked exactly like the creepy guy that lives in the tree in The Princess Bride. Oh wait, there was wrestling at this event too. Divas match was horrible, horrible horrible. Santino winning made no sense, at least should have had Mae Young win or something. Godawful. I'd bet you a dollar the tag title match would have been a better use of time than Kid Rock and the Divas. Jericho vs Legends was ok, only because I enjoyed seeing Steamboat and listening to Piper swear up a storm. The Rourke thing was really dumb, took too long and just makes you say "oh, ok... I guess that's that". Rey vs JBL is what it is although Rey looked ridiculous as the Joker- what the hell? Hardys was a bit of a disappointment, just didn't have the right feel to it. The ending with the Twist of fate on the chair was incredible though. HBK and Undertaker was fantastic but I can't give it 5 stars because of a few things. First is that the match was thirty minutes long and they spent a solid 10 minutes laying on the ground. Second is that we all already know Taker will never lose so it's hard for me to believe that "The Streak" is on the line. Taker falling on his head on the cameraman looked brutal. Who's next for Taker? Probably Cena? Speaking of which I marked out when they played his old Thuganomics music but quickly changed my tune when all those guys started doing the "you can't see me" very... vigorously... I'll remember nothing of that match except Edge not being pinned. Like everyone said the bar was set SO HIGH with HBK vs Taker that the crowd didn't really care. Speaking of the crowd not caring... I don't know if I've ever seen a crowd more dead for a main event than tonight! There was pretty much no reaction through the whole match and the Triple H wins by punching Orton a few times and nailing the most anticlimactic pedigree I've ever seen! I think lack of star power really hurt this show, being Wrestlemania 25. On the upside, I had a great time watching the event in a packed theater and the crowd was really into it. There were some little kids behind us that were marking out for all the faces and it was nice to hear because 20 years ago I was that same kid.
