TNA Impact Reax #1: "TNA Booked their refs to look like idiots in two of the biggest matches of the night."

Colin Johnson of Kalamazoo, Mich. (7.0): Best Match: Team Japan vs. Team TNA. Worst Match: TNA Booking their refs to look like idiots in two of the biggest matches of the night. I thought TNA had a good show from start to finish. At first, I wasn't sure about TNA kicking off the show with Joe vs. Kaz, but in the end it turned out to be a good match, and it was a lot better than most of the openers they've been having lately. Team Japan vs Team TNA was easily the best match of the night, and it definitely did it's job of showing what the World X-Cup is all about to those viewers who aren't that familiar with it. Koslov didn't really impress me that much against Curry Man, but I know what he's capable of so I'll give it a pass. The tag title match could've been a pretty good match if it wasn't so chaotic and confusing. And since when does a ref reverse his decision simply because a guy begs him to? Way to make your officials look credible TNA. I've been getting sick and tired of the way TNA books their refs and I'm glad James Caldwell finally took notice as well. Kim vs. Sky was an okay match, but I really hope this feud is over seeing that TBP have now lost two matches in a row. Finally, we got A.J. Styles vs Kurt Angle. This wasn't nearly as good as their Slammiversary match, but still a decent main event. But again, TNA has to make their officials look completely incompetent by having him get distracted several times too many when A.J. tried to go for a pin. The post-match scenario seemed a little too chaotic as well, but did its job of establishing the heels, and it did want to make me tune in next week.

Dan Strauss of Goodhue, Minn.: Like most Thursdays, I didn't catch all of Impact, flipping around channels. TNA still has some lagging parts and a few storylines could use some work. Having said that, there is a huge difference in the TNA product versus the WWE product the last few weeks/months that has a chance to steal some viewers to their brand. If the most casual or first-time wrestling fan were to hear about Impact and turn to Spike TV at a random time like 8:37, they would probably see wrestling, and that's something WWE is stupidly getting away from. TNA has a long way to go, but it just seems lately that they, as a wrestling organization, are putting so many more in-ring segments in their show than their counterparts. Randomly turn on Raw and after last Monday, chances are you'll see Bob Barker - I mean Vince McMahon, giving away money, or one of Triple H's mandatory three nightly promos. TNA needs to keep doing the good things with the product and keep the action in the ring, where the true wrestling fans want it.

Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (9.0): Best: Kaz vs.Joe Worst: Sonjay vs. Creed (not bad, though); Angle soap opera. I wish I was a fly on the wall right now at WWE HQ to see how paranoid Vince McMahon has to be right now. You know it's bad when TNA's usual regular chaos actually fares better, with both me and the TV crowd, than Raw's borefest. While to me it should have been the other way around as Joe is the champion without a major soap opera orbiting around him, the show had a hot open with the very good Joe-Kaz match. I don't have a whole lot of confidence in TNA to do it, but somewhere they must think something good of Kaz to keep putting him title territory. Daivari's been added to TNA, or maybe not as he made no other apperances to followup his promo. Team Japan-MCMG was a spotfest, but extremely well done. The dark-haired Japanese competitor (didn't catch names) was super fast but not so fast that he was botching spots. How often does it happen that TNA refs bother to check their own officiating via replay? It did allow for a split decision for the good Roode/Storm-LAX match and what looks like the makings for a good feud. Curious though, where was Celinas? Velvet-Kim was a decent match (Angelina-Kim would have been better) with the Brown Bag gimmick backfiring on Velvet. Another curious, no Moose? What was the point of that then? Angle-Styles match was good when the soap opera is left out of it (much like Michaels-Batista and Michaels-Jericho in WWE); the soap opera added in takes the whole thing down more than a few notches, and left TNA champion Samoa Joe in the lurch. The Nash-Joe promo didn't help matters. Joe's promo with Booker, particularly where Joe gives Booker his locker room key, can either be interpreted as Joe becoming more everyman... or his reign will be coming to an end. I'm hoping it's not the latter.
