In Brief: From Headshrinker to Hall of Famer, Rikishi’s action figures have evolved with his character.

Action Figure Spotlight #63: Rikishi

Papa Uso is a Hall of Famer. WWE announced Monday that Rikishi will join Randy Savage and Arnold Schwarzenegger as the latest inductee in the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2015.

Rikishi has been a part of WWF/WWE toy lines from Hasbro, Jakks Pacific, and Mattel. While many of his Jakks figures are similar and somewhat indistinguishable, there are still a few that have caught collectors’s eyes over the years.

(1) Hasbro WWF Series 10 Dark Blue Cards. Rikishi, as Headshrinker Fatu, made his action figure debut in late 1994. By the time these figures hit retail stores, Headshrinker Samu was gone and replaced with Sionne, a repackaged Barbarian. This wave was released toward the end of the line, and figures were clearanced out at toy stores such as Kay-Bee and Circus World. Today loose Fatu figures can be found for about $5-7. Packaged figures typically sell in the $15-25 range.

(2) Jakks Pacific WWF Managers Two-Packs Series 1. After he was a Headshrinker and a guy from the streets looking to make a difference, Fatu was transformed into an Iranian Sultan. This series was released early in Jakks’s production and the figures are somewhat laughable. The masked Sultan comes with a ridiculous looking Bob Backlund. If you really want these figures, you can probably find them loose or packaged for $5-10.

(3) Jakks Pacific WWF WrestleMania XVIII Series 8. Jakks debuted its Real Scan technology in 2001, and Rikishi’s figures were a big part of the marketing campaign. Toy publications ran close-up pictures, showing just how accurate the face sculpts were. Most of Rikishi’s figures were released around this time and are very similar. This particular figure comes with a removable black T-shirt with an outline of Rikishi’s likeness. This remains a fairly popular figure, selling for $15-20 loose or $30-40 packaged.

(4) Jakks Pacific WWF Get in the Groove Three-Pack. Rikishi’s popularity peaked during the first half of 2000, when the big Samoan began teaming and dancing with the comedic Too Cool. This box set includes all three figures with plenty of removable accessories and a boombox that plays Too Cool’s entrance theme. These three-packs are very difficult to find; the only completed eBay listing in the last 90 days sold for $74.99.

(5) Mattel WWE Elite Series 27. Rikishi’s first Mattel figure was released in late 2013 in the 27th Elite series. The highly detailed figure comes with removable entrance gear and sunglasses. You may be able to find one at your local retail store for $18.99, or online for $25-30.
