In Brief: New cards of The Undertaker, A.J. Lee, and John Cena were some of the most popular in a year when Topps controlled the wrestling trading card market.

For the first time in almost a decade, Topps had total control of the mainstream wrestling trading card market in 2014. TRISTAR had been producing TNA products every year since 2008, but that came to an end with the release of the 2013 TNA Glory product. Leaf offered up its Leaf Originals Wrestling product in 2012, but so far that has been a one-shot deal.

There were some wrestling-related tie-ins from other sets in 2014. Topps included autographs and relics from the Iron Sheik in its 2014 Allen & Ginter baseball product. Leaf offered up signatures from wrestling legends like Bruno Sammartino, Ric Flair, George Steele, and others in its 2014 Pop Century brand. And Upper Deck produced the first certified autographs of wrestler-turned-movie-star Dave Bautista for its 2014 "Guardians of the Galaxy" product.

Here’s a look at ten hot wrestling products, insert sets, and individual cards from 2014, in no particular order.

- 2014 Topps WWE Autographs. Topps delivered perhaps its strongest autograph lineup ever in the 2014 Topps WWE product released in the spring. This product included the first certified autographs of Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper, Erick Rowan, and Renee Young.

Also included were signatures from established stars like A.J. Lee, Daniel Bryan, John Cena, Jack Swagger, and Randy Orton, and WWE legends like Shawn Michaels, X-Pac, Billy Gunn, and Road Dogg. There are also black autographs limited to 50 copies, silver autographs limited to 25, gold autographs limited to 10 and 1/1 red autographs. Most of the big names in the set easily sell for $50-60 each.

- 2014 Topps WWE and Topps WWE Chrome NXT Prospects. Topps released its first WWE product of the year, 2014 Topps WWE, shortly after the first "NXT Takeover" special. Included in that product was a 20-card NXT Prospects subset that featured some of the hot young NXT talent who had wrestling fans buzzing, especially Paige, Sami Zayn. and Adrian Neville.

The NXT Prospects insert set also includes the first trading card of (Don’t Call Me Alexander) Rusev and cards of potential stars such as Bayley, Charlotte, and Tyler Breeze. WWE produced a similar set in its 2014 Topps WWE Chrome product over the summer; the cards were identical other than the Chrome finish. You can find a full set of either the basic Topps or Topps Chrome for around $10-15. At one point the Paige Chrome card was selling as high as $12, but it has dropped considerably since Paige’s push cooled.

- Undertaker Relic Cards. Topps has been producing WWE relic cards since 2005. An overwhelming majority of those relic cards have included a single-color swatch of wrestler-worn t-shirts. When Topps does something different and incorporates more unique materials, collectors notice.

In 2014 Topps released three short printed Undertaker relic cards that were an instant hit with collectors. Topps cut up a pair of Undertaker’s match-worn pants and put the swatches into cards for its 2014 Topps WWE product. They followed that up with an even scarcer relic card in 2014 Topps WWE Chrome that included a piece of Undertaker’s hat. Finally, in 2014 Topps WWE Road to WrestleMania, Topps used both materials in a dual relic card that was limited to just 22 copies, commemorating Taker’s 22 WrestleMania matches.

- Dave Bautista 2014 Upper Deck Guardians of the Galaxy Autographs. Batista has appeared in WWE trading card sets since 2002, but has never signed a wrestling card. Now wrestling collectors are competing with a much wider audience for one of Big Dave’s autographs.

Batista’s signature appears on a handful of cards in 2014 Upper Deck Guardians of the Galaxy, including single autographs, dual autographs and autograph memorabilia cards. Basic autographs sell in the $40-80 range, and autograph memorabilia cards usually sell in the $80-120 range.

- John Cena 2014 Topps WWE Road to WrestleMania Shoe Relic SP. As mentioned previously with the Undertaker relic cards, wrestling collectors dig unique memorabilia cards. This super short-printed card includes a piece of Cena’s shoe instead of his shirt, and the odds of pulling one are staggering: 1:12,5000 packs. Recent sales have ranged from $141.39 to $329.99.

- Roman Reigns 2014 Topps Chrome Autograph. The former Shield member officially became the next big thing with management, fans, and collectors right about the time of the Royal Rumble. He was the last man eliminated and set the record for most Rumble eliminations, and turned face shortly thereafter.

Reigns’s first signature was released in 2013, but many collectors prefer his 2014 Topps WWE Chrome autograph because it features an on-card autograph, not a sticker, and the signature is slightly better than his sloppy “RR” from 2013. The basic autograph usually sells in the $80-100 range, with different color variations fetching more. A Gold Refractor autograph serial numbered to 10 recently sold for $135.29.
Superfractor.JPG

- 2014 Topps WWE Chrome Superfractors. Sports card collectors became acquainted with Topps Superfractors in the mid-2000s. These are extremely rare parallel cards, usually serial numbered 1/1, with a prismatic gold finish. These are the ultimate high-end wrestling cards, as each one is a one-of-a-kind piece. Once the Chrome product was announced in early 2014, collectors began speculating on which cards would be included and how much they would fetch.

The Roman Reigns Superfactor Autograph was immediately identified as the top card to pull. The card surfaced in August, and in early September sold for a whopping $1,525. There are Superfractor parallels to most cards in the product, including swatch relics, mat relics, base cards and autographs. Several websites track the pulls and sales of all 2014 Topps WWE Chrome Superfractors. Recent Superfractor sales have ranged from $77.71 for an Ezekiel Jackson to $500 for a Bray Wyatt.

- 2014 Topps WWE Road to WrestleMania Signed Mat Card Relics. For its WrestleMania-centered product, Topps included signatures from top WWE stars past and present. The Signed Mat Relic cards include a jumbo swatch of canvas from WrestleMania 30 with signatures from such wrestlers as Hulk Hogan, Lex Luger, Ron Simmons, Trish Stratus, Cesaro, and Roman Reigns, among others.
Gold_Belt_AJ.JPG

- 2014 Topps WWE Gold Championship Belts. Topps has found success with its replica belt cards in various UFC products, and wrestling collectors have been just as receptive. These cards have a title belt design, with a replica belt plate inserted into the card. There were 30 different cards (12,000 total cards produced) in 2014 Topps and an additional 30 (4,000 total cards produced) in 2014 Topps WWE Chrome.

Six of the basic Topps cards also featured gold parallels with just 100 made of each: A.J. Lee (Divas Championship), Andre the Giant (WWE Championship), Christian (Intercontinental Championship), D-Generation X (WWE Tag Team Championship), Roddy Piper (U.S. Championship), and The Undertaker (World Heavyweight Championship). The gold cards are incredibly scarce, but can be difficult to differentiate from the basic belt cards. The plates on the gold cards have a much shinier finish; the easiest way to tell the difference is to compare the basic A.J. Lee Divas Championship belt card, with a dull, silvery finish, to the shiny gold version. Sales are few and far between, with an A.J. Lee recently selling for $149.

- 2014 Topps WWE and Topps WWE Chrome Autograph Divas Kiss. Kiss cards, which feature actual lip prints from WWE Divas, have been popular since Fleer introduced them in the early 2000s. Autographed kiss cards are scarcer and more valuable.

The basic 2014 Topps WWE product included 100 total kiss cards from five Divas: AJ Lee, Eva Marie, JoJo, Renee Young and Summer Rae. Topps Chrome features 50 total cards from A.J. Lee, Aksana, Cameron, Tamina Snuka, and Vickie Guerrero.
