Instant Reaction - WWE NXT 3/27
By Ben Tucker, PWTorch TV specialist

Overall Score - 6.0

Ever since NXT Arrival, many viewers of the show have felt that the program has steadily lost momentum. While I wasn't the first to feel that way, this week's NXT practically felt stale. And that's, in part, due to its strengths.

NXT feuds feel similar to the slow burn stories that were told in the WWF during the early 1990s. While this can be good, it also inevitably leads to certain feuds staying on TV (or other viewing devices) past their expiration date. Just as Ted DiBiase's feud with the Mega Powers was dragged out for around nine months, Corey Graves's rivalry with Sami Zayn is being prolonged with unnecessary matches against Yoshi Tatsu. Similarly, Bo Dallas and Adrian Neville's re-match for the NXT Title took a month to take place, when nothing developed their rivalry further. One month of spinning their wheels.

Tonight's episode of NXT had one stand-out match surrounded by a large number of feuds that haven't progressed fast enough to feel fresh. Put them all together, and you have an okay hour of programming.

The only match that truly impressed tonight was the main event championship match, and even the opening half felt a bit clunky. Once Neville took the driver's seat, the match kicked into high gear, and his showcase of athleticism, mixed in with several nice nearfalls by Bo Dallas, made the match feel special. None of the other contests on the show felt like much, but with five minutes a piece dedicated to each match, none of the competitors had too much time to do anything of note.

Tyler Breeze once again stole the undercard of the show with his great mannerisms. He's more in-tune with his character than 75% percent of the roster in NXT and in the main roster. The Divas match was solid, but neither the Graves squash nor the opening Parker-Rawley match are worth seeking out to watch later.

Mojo Rawley's gimmick is already beginning to wear thin on me. Whereas gimmicks like Adam Rose or Tyler Breeze can display a lot of depth, Rawley's "Hyped" gimmick tells me nothing about him, and watching him run out to the ring every week is starting to get grating.

Overall, NXT is hardly a stale program, in and of itself, but it does feel like the writers are spinning their wheels until after WrestleMania season ends. Until then, it seems as if we'll have to wait for any new stories to be told.
