NXT Rankings & Evaluation
By George Chiverton, PWTorch NXT specialist

3/20 NXT Evaluation

Rankings at the end!

- Mojo Rawley was out first get lost in himself running around the arena. The Gronkmeister general of the Patriots was out to support a former teammate. He was settled in the audience in a way that didn’t particularly highlight him and seemed super into Mojo. He hence won some serious modesty points from me. Mojo was against Ball Dempsey. I don’t know what to do with that name.

Big Ball took control early before Mojo wriggled out and hit a tackle, followed by a series of big splashes and his big seated senton finisher for the win. Very short match but for this stage of his career in terms of training, and that’s just fine. He ran into the audience after the match for a hyper meet up with Mr G-Dawg and the crowd. Everyone was having fun, which is what Mojo is all about.

- C.J. Parker was backstage in a suit (heels really need to learn that there are other ways to dress than the Chris Jericho approach). He said Mojo was a bad person for eating fast food. Sure?

- Tyler Breeze made his entrance while they replayed his attack on Xavier Woods last week. Sami Zayn’s awful music hit and suddenly the star power of the building went up 500 times as he made his entrance. Before Zayn got to the ring, Corey Graves came out and slammed him into the post. Regal did a great job here by highlighting Sami was saying hello to a little girl. What a way to get a heel over. After some attention, Sami was assisted to the back. Good segment, although Breeze's non-role was a bit odd considering the replay they showed.

- Sheamus was backstage with Devin Taylor before Aiden English interrupted. He said he was "using this show to get to the brighter lights of Broadway," which has a million issues with it. Why would he ever try to win a match? Does winning titles get you closer to Broadway? Has John Cena just wanted to be in Kinky Boots all this time? I hate this character. Sheamus implied that Aiden has testicle issues and that was that.

- They went to a still-shot to confirm the match where Aiden looked utterly dastardly in black and white. Maybe he should go for a throwback gimmick or something steampunky as in Gangs of New York. Anything other than the current non-sense would be better for me.

- Adam Rose was out next with the party. As the eagle-eared Alan M. for Boston observed in Monday's Ask PWTorch Staff, Rose had new and inferior music. It’s still a great entrance, no doubt, but the tune isn’t quite as catchy. Mister Pat McNeil observed there may have been licensing issues at-play. Listening back to the original, it sounds similar to a song that I cannot for the life of me remember the name of. Unfortunately, despite a stunning rendition by myself, neither can my mates. It’ll come to me the second I post this I guarantee it.

Renee and Regal were being hilarious on commentary including Regal observing a la Stewie from Family Guy: ‘I like the strawberry Adam’s wearing. It’s a strawberry.' He was against Camacho who, after some playing from Adam, took control with a back drop. He then took Rose into the corner and hit some big chops. He was trained by Bully Ray, who is the best chopper in the business for me, and it came through with the sheer volume that Camacho managed to generate off his slaps.

After a strong period in control, Camacho mimicked Rose, which caused the mean streak to come from Rose. He hit some much more suitable offense for his gimmick, which was both fast and exciting. It never got too serious, but was still hard-hitting and it seems the formula may be coming together. He hit his big clothesline for the win. The audience went mad and were almost universally dancing to Rose's music. It was a great sight and Rose seems to be arriving in a big way now. Of note, Vickie and Eddie Guerrero’s daughter, Raquel Diaz, has re-signed with WWE and was part of the party.

- Bayley was against ‘The Bawss’ Sasha Banks next. Bayley was way over in a way I wasn’t expecting. After taking control, Bayley nabbed Sasha’s shutter shades and dished out some mockery. After a missed corner attack, though, Sasha took control. Her offense was perfectly entertaining while Bayley sold well. The end came when Charlotte went for a sneak attack on the outside on Natalya (oh, she was there by the way) which allowed Sasha to try a cheeky roll-up. Bayley reversed into a roll-up for the win though popping the crowd. Another loss for the bawss and these are starting to add up.

- Aiden English made his dumb entrance and actually seemed to end his singing on a minor note when he was singing in a major key. Botchamania here he comes! Am I right? Anyway, yes, hello. Sheamus came down to raucous cheering. English had a microphone and restated his intentions to go to Broadway. Sheamus ran a poll on whether anyone thought Aiden would get to Broadway where only Regal sheepishly (and hilariously) said, ‘I do.' Sheamus took the mic, got crowd onside, and then got everyone to clap along while he busted out an Irish ballad. After Aiden interrupted a couple of times the match was on. Aiden managed to get a couple of shots in by running round the ring until Sheamus caught up with him and got his fighting on.

Back from the break, Sheamus was still in control but when he tried to get Aiden into the ring, English rolled right through to the other side. He managed to catch Sheamus and whip him into the steps which started a lengthy period of control. The commentators made a big deal of Aiden even hanging with Sheamus meaning when the inevitable loss occurred he still walked away a bigger star than when he arrived. Simply smart.

After a solid five minutes of English control, Sheamus fought out of a sleeper hold and hit his signature offense. Aiden is undoubtedly a great throwback wrestler and he worked well taking Sheamus’s offense. This included the Brogue Kick which was good for the win. A good match and Aiden looked good in defeat. After the match Sheamus went and found a young kid who had done the full Sheamus beard and carried him around the arena. A nice closing shot and gesture from the Irishman.

Overall, a decent week of NXT, although I am led to believe that next week is the big title rematch which wasn’t even mentioned. That’s pretty inexcusable in terms of promoting the title for me.

RANKINGS

(1) Sami Zayn
(2) Corey Graves
(3) Adrian Neville
(4) Paige
(5) Bo Dallas
(6) Emma
(7) Tyler Breeze
(8) Charlotte
(9) The Ascension
(10) Mojo Rawley
(11) Colin Cassidy
(12) Aiden English
(13) C.J. Parker

No movement this week, but a couple of items of note. Both Sasha Banks and Adam Rose are set to join the rankings with a couple more matches from each needed to confirm my theories and hopes. I’m really stumped by Aiden English as I can’t work out if his gimmick is as awful as I think or I’m just a massive fan of his character. He’s doing some big no-nos in terms of wrestling e.g. saying his character's main motive lies outside the title, but he is getting the boos and he is good in the ring. I’ve been told by some commenters that they really like the character, so maybe I’m wrong on this one. Time will tell. If I was a YouTuber I may even ask for your views in the comments. But, who wants that? (Well, I do if you want to, too, I’d just never ask outright.)

Anyways that’s your lot you horrible cretins. I’m joking I love you please stay and comment and tweet me @GeorgeChiverton and all those gubbins. Either that or I’ll see you next week. Bubye now.
