In a word: Bray Wyatt's first autograph is driving interest in the newest WWE cards from Topps.

Topps has found a winning formula that works for wrestling cards, and the sports card giant is sticking with it for 2014 Topps WWE, which just went live earlier this week.

Like with most recent WWE products from Topps, each hobby box delivers 24 packs, with seven cards per pack. In addition to plenty of base cards and a plethora of inserts, each box includes two hits: one relic card, and one autograph card or SummerSlam mat relic card. There are also retail packs and $20 blaster boxes.

Divas Kiss Cards return this year, with lip prints from 10 Divas including A.J. Lee, Summer Rae, and Renee Young. New to 2014 Topps WWE is a Commemorative Championship Belt set, which features a metal replica belt plate inserted into the cards. There are 30 total subjects in this set and six different titles.

Like most other sports card sets, Topps WWE products are driven by autographs. WWE’s ability to create new stars the last couple years has increased interest in each card set as collectors scramble to pick up the first autographs of those new stars.

So far the hottest card from 2014 Topps WWE has been the first Bray Wyatt autograph. Most of his basic autographs have sold for around $50, and one silver parallel serial numbered to 25 sold for $125. There are also autographs from Luke Harper and Eric Rowan, as well as a triple autograph of all three members of the Wyatt Family. There are four different triple autograph cards with a total print run of just 25, likely meaning between four and six copies of each card exist.

Other first-time signers in 2014 Topps WWE include Eva Marie, Jojo, and Renee Young. There are also signatures from top stars like Daniel Bryan, John Cena, and Randy Orton. DX alumni Shawn Michaels, X-Pac, Road Doggand Billy Gunn have also signed for this set.

The Relic Swatch Cards are more of the same from past products, most containing a black piece of a T-shirt worn by one of 18 different wrestlers. The big draw to these is Topps’s first Undertaker memorabilia card. Mat Relic Cards are back, with pieces of the mat from SummerSlam 2013.

Topps’s latest offering also marks the first time that wrestling cards have carried a rookie card logo and designation. Cards of Wyatt, Harper, Rowan and have rookie card emblems on them, even though Wyatt appeared in past sets as Husky Harris.

A 10-card subset highlights 20 prospects from NXT, including Adrian Neville, Paige, Emma, Alexander Russev, Xavier Woods, and others. These are the first trading cards of many of the wrestlers involved, and could become very popular with collectors if someone like Neville or Paige catches fire in WWE.
Hobby boxes were initially available for pre-sale at $45-50 a box, but interest in the autographs has driven the price up slightly. Most online retailers are selling boxes for around $55-60.

If you open any boxes of this new product and want to share the results with collectors, feel free to send an e-mail tomichaelmoorewriter@gmail.com.
