During the summer of 1999, the WWF began airing teasers of a clocking counting down to the new millennium. But, this clock didn’t hit zero on Dec. 31.

When the clock finally stopped ticking on Aug. 9, 1999, former WCW cruiserweight Chris Jericho stepped out onto a WWF stage for the first time. In his debut, Jericho interrupted no less of a star than The Rock at the peak of his popularity. In a matter of minutes, Chris Jericho went from Internet darling to big-time star.

Mattel captured Jericho’s memorable WWF debut with an Entrance Greats action figure. The toy depicts Jericho exactly as he appeared that night, with his goofy hair and smirk, along with a removable shiny silver shirt and faux leather pants. Underneath are the red tights Jericho wore early in his WWF career. The battery-operated stand plays a snippet of Jericho’s entrance music.

The figure and its accessories have become favorites of collectors. The bulky packaging makes it expensive for sellers to ship, which sometimes keeps the sale prices down. The figure originally retailed for $22.99, and can usually be found for right around that, plus shipping.

Loose figures sell for slightly less but are just as popular, in part because sellers often offer substantially lower shipping. The removable shirt and pants are popular with makers of custom figures, or those who prefer to use them on a Jakks figure.

Jericho’s WWF is often mentioned as one of the best ever, and this figure captures it perfectly.
