In Brief: Legendary wrestler Stan Hansen's only toy was produced by Remco during his reign as AWA World Champion in 1986.
- Action Figure Spotlight #38: Stan Hansen Remco AWA Greatest Grudge Matches
- Originally released: 1986
- What you can expect to pay: $150-300 packaged; $10-50 loose
- Recent sales: $15.73, $50.00 (loose)
Stan “the Lariat” Hansen was one of the biggest stars in wrestling in the 1970s and 1980s. He made a name for himself mostly in Japan, though he did have main event runs against Bruno Sammartino in the WWWF and as the AWA World Champion. Despite his legendary status, only one Stan Hansen action figure has ever been made.
Hansen was included in Remco’s AWA Greatest Grudge Matches in a two-pack with Jerry “Crusher” Blackwell, who also had only one wrestling toy ever made in his likeness. The Hansen figure featured the flabby body mold, and the head had bleach blonde hair and moustache.
The Greatest Grudge Matches series was not as widely distributed as some earlier AWA figures, so finding a packaged Hansen figure or a loose one with all of its accessories can be very difficult. Packaged Hansen-Blackwell two-packs pop up for sale so infrequently that it is difficult to assign value to them. You may luck out and find one for $150, or you may have to spend $300 to $350. In recent months there has only been on offered on eBay, with the seller asking nearly $400.
Loose figures are somewhat easy to find and affordable. A basic Hansen figure with no accessories usually sells between $10 and $20, depending on the condition. Finding a Hansen figure with his cowboy hat, vest, and chaps is considerably more difficult – and costly. A loose figure complete with all of these accessories recently sold for $50.
The Classic WWE Superstars line from Jakks included toys of several wrestlers who found more success in Japan than in the U.S., such as Bruiser Brody, Terry Gordy, and Steve Williams. But, for whatever reason, collectors are still waiting on the first modern era toy of Stan Hansen.
- Ringsidecollectibles.com now has in stock the first new TNA figures from Jakks in more than a year. Deluxe Impact features new toys of James Storm, Robert Roode, the now-departed Velvet Sky, Jeff Hardy, and Mr. Anderson. There is also a special chase figure of James Storm that comes with a die-cast TNA World title belt. Jakks made only 100 of the special chase figure, which is noted on the package; Ringside Collectibles is asking $84.99 for this particular figure.
- Leaf Trading Cards had promised wrestling fans that the new Leaf Originals Wrestling cards would be released in July, but the release date has apparently been pushed back to mid-August. Updates on these cards can be found here at BlowoutCards.com .
