COLLECTIBLES COLUMN: Reader Q&A on rare collectible items, Undertaker signing story

By Michael Moore, PWTorch collectibles specialist

Question: I recently went through my attic and found all of my Jakks WWF Superstar Series figures, all still in the package, and I think I have almost the entire collection, from Series 1-6, among other WCW figures. I could not find a price value guide online, nor do I see the going rate for these figures. So, I am guessing there is not much demand for these figures, so should I hold off selling these for a new TV due to the value being low?

Moore Answer: Unfortunately, Jakks made so many WWF/WWE figures that the original bone-crunching action figures that were made starting in 1996 really aren't worth much anymore. They peaked during the early part of the decade; around 2000-2001 the Ultimate Warrior, Kevin Nash, and Scott Hall figures were all selling anywhere from $40-$80 each. Nowadays you can probably get about $10 each for Hall and Nash. Warrior would probably sell for about $20 or $25 as long as the package is in good condition.

Question: I was wondering if you had ever seen this item before - a mini-plaque from WrestleMania 22. I was wondering if it is authentic or not. I purchased this off eBay but always wondered about its authenticity.

Moore Answer: This item is in fact authentic. A few of these were recently offered on eBay, so I contacted the sellers to ask where they got them. The plaques were included as a promotional item as a pre-order bonus with the WrestleMania 22 DVD. The plaque features a picture of the ring from that year’s WrestleMania, along with a swatch of canvas. The back of the plaque has a certificate of authenticity with a facsimile of Linda McMahon’s signature.

Question: I bought this general manager Kurt Angle figure, but he is in a Tyson Tomko package. Does the error make it worth more?

Moore Answer: Unfortunately, error figures like this are very common, especially with Jakks WWE and TNA releases. Angle has a lot of figures from both WWE and TNA sets, so there isn't a lot of demand for his figures. However, if you could find the right buyer, you could probably get $10-$15 for it.

Question: I have one rare item, an Edge and Mick Foley with the hardcore championship belt in a mega pack. How much is it worth?

Moore Answer: That was a pretty common package when it came out; about three years ago, Walmart discounted the item and was selling it for about $10. It originally retailed for about $30.

Right now if you were to sell it, you could probably get $35-40; I'd suggest hanging onto it for now. As mentioned in an earlier column, some collectors are dissatisfied with the
Mattel WWE toys. These collectors (and parents of kids who prefer these toys) must turn to the secondary market to buy older Jakks figures of the guys they're looking for. As that happens, there will be fewer of these available.

Cool collectible: Torch reader Jake Gregory sent in this story about meeting some legendary wrestlers and obtaining autographs.

I got this at Indianapolis International Airport around 1992 or so. Undertaker, Ricky Steamboat, the Bushwackers, Earthquake, and Kerry Von Erich were at baggage claim as my family picked up our bags. I only scored the ones you see but saw how rare it was for Undertaker to sign.
