RAW HITS
Opening Segment: It seemed to me that Ricky Hatton needed to speak a little louder into his mic. Other than that, he did a good job as the guest host. The opening segment was good, but not great. The interaction between Hatton and JeriShow was fun. They did a nice job of playing off of the Big Show vs. Floyd Mayweather feud. I loved how condescending Chris Jericho was when he put a stop to it so that Show wasn't embarrassed again. Being in a different country gave Jericho a chance to come up with some different insults for the fans which was fun to hear. DX was ok in their interruption. They also did a nice job of setting up the main event.
Miz - Swagger: I'm not sure exactly where WWE is going with this budding feud between The Miz and Jack Swagger, but I have enjoyed the ride thus far. It is a bit odd to have two heels feuding like this. It is likely due to the lack of mid-card babyfaces with any credibility. I liked their verbal exchange when Swagger interrupted Miz's interview about their upcoming Survivor Series tag match against Team Morrison. Swagger's match against Evan Bourne was short but good while it lasted. It wasn't anything special as we've seen these two wrestle multiple times. It was predictable that Miz would distract Swagger, but it worked well. It was nice to see Bourne actually getting a win, even in this way. Swagger's winning streak came to an end, but it wasn't a big deal in the first place.
Chavo vs. Hatton: I have pretty much accepted the fact that Chavo Guerrero's role on Raw will always be to look foolish at the hands of either Hornswoggle, the guest host, or both. I prefer the guest host to Hornswoggle at this point, so that helps this match get in the Hit column. Also, the boxer vs. wrestler match was well booked. Chavo got to do some classic heel stall tactics by bailing to the outside a few times early on. He played his part well of being over cocky after a take down. The actual finish to the match with Hatton escaping an attempted take down to deliver a knock out blow to Chavo was well executed. It certainly gave the English crowd a feel good moment.
RAW MISSES
Too Many Videos: Maybe it was just me, but it seemed like Raw had more videos this week than usual. Even if it wasn't any more than usual, it still bothered me how many there were. Some of them were good videos and made sense, like the opening one recalling the final moments from last week's show. That was followed by Ricky Hatton showing a video of one of his knockouts, which was fine. There was a typical short recap from last week of Alicia Fox becoming the #1 contender for the Divas Title. They showed a well produced video on the WrestleMania 26 ticket sale. All of that was before the second commercial break. There was another short recap of Shaemus' beating of Jamie Noble. Again, I want to point out that not all of the videos were bad or unnecessary. That one was quite necessary. But, others were not like the short video of Hatton's new exercise facility. Then came a video featuring the Nascar guest hosts from a few weeks ago and the WWE's involvement in a race this weekend. The VIP lounge featured another replay from last week recapping the Kofi Kingston - Randy Orton feud. There was a video on the re-launch of wweshop.com. And, if all of that were not bad enough, they once again played the Raw Rebound from last week showcasing Raw's Got Talent. I gave it a Miss on Smackdown for having to sit through the video for a third time in one week. Now, I have to sit through it again? Give me a break. Did someone actually think that was such a great segment that it was worth replaying so many times? Did half the Raw writing staff get the week off since they are in Europe? Is that why there was so much filler?
VIP Lounge: This was a bad segment. It seemed like a mutual ass-kissing club as Mark Henry and Montel Vontavious Porter talked up Kofi Kingston. It was annoying. At the same time, their performance wasn't convincing. It almost sounded like they were being sarcastic in their praise. I don't think it was supposed to come across that way. It was cheesy that Orton and Legacy would have to wait for MVP's door man to open the velvet rope to gain access to the ring. I was uncomfortable with the racial overtones of the segment, as the three black men in the ring were referred to as criminals who belong in the hood as opposed to the sophisticated and rich white men. Then, the segment randomly ended for no apparent reason as it cut to a commercial.
Cena vs. Triple H vs. Michaels Hype: I don't get this at all. WWE is taking a match with three of the top stars in the company, the three top babyfaces on Raw, and making a joke of it. I don't get it. The scene with John Cena, Hornswoggle, Triple H and Shawn Michaels was terrible. There were multiple attempts at humor, none of which actually achieved laughter. Why are they going for comedy in this angle? I wouldn't mind as much if it were funny, but I would still mind the basic premise of turning this match into a joke. It makes no sense. DX is more concerned about Hornswoggle's gimmick infringement than on winning the World Title. Cena tried to save things during the main event with his commentary. He really played up the possible tension between Hunter and Michaels during the PPV match, but it didn't work. He sounded weak for basically saying that his only hope is for DX to implode. Why not say that he is going to kick their asses? It is bad. By the way, the main event tag, DX vs. JeriShow was solid. I didn't quite like it well enough to give it a Hit, but it wasn't bad.
