PARKS BLOG: Who will be the new Raw General Manager under Donald Trump's ownership? Jun 22, 2009 - 5:05:43 PM
PWTorch VIP members have first-look access to all of Torch Smackdown specialist Greg Parks's latest blogs in the newly upgraded VIP Forum. His blogs are published first in the PWTorch VIP Forum, and Parks interacts with other VIP members and Torch staff and contributors in the blog comments area afterward. Some of Parks's blog entries will be exclusive to the VIP Forum.
Last week, Vince McMahon was expected to announce the new Raw GM. Instead, he shocked everyone by declaring that he had sold the brand to Donald Trump. Now, tonight or in the near future, Trump is expected to name a GM. The list of candidates is endless. Here are a few possibilities:
Donald Trump: Who knows better what Trump, the new owner, wants carried out than The Donald himself? This would be a short-term move and I'm sure Trump would be heard and not seen; he wouldn't be at every Raw. But this is likely a long-shot.
Vince McMahon: McMahon actually working for Trump has some potential and Vince has been in the decision-making role before. Because Raw is his baby, McMahon would likely want to stay on in some capacity and could be around to see things deteriorate under Trump, causing him to eventually buy Raw back.
Ric Flair: He's back working with WWE again, and naming him GM would certainly turn Trump face, at least for a while. Flair could confront McMahon during Vince's farewell address on Raw tonight, going face-to-face with the man that made him do the retirement stipulation in the first place.
William Regal: Regal has actually been getting a push in the U.S. Title picture, but he's always a candidate when an open authority figure spot pops up. He has done well in the role before and it works to his strengths of facial expressions and mic work.
Teddy Long: Really, either of the other GM's could get promoted to Raw, but with Tiffany, I don't know that they'd want to throw her into the fire of live Raws this early. Long has been a great GM character and Raw could use someone who isn't the focal point of storylines.
Mr. Kennedy: They are in Green Bay tonight after all, so I thought I'd put him down even though he's the longest of long shots. But if Vince got over his anti-Kennedy mood swing, they could utilize him in an out-of-ring role like this one, since one of the main complaints about him was wrestling-related.
Stephanie/Shane McMahon: This could be done to cause a rift between one of them and Vince, being hired by Trump and all. Like Regal, the McMahon kids' names always come up when a spot like this is open.
Howard Finkel: Who better to run things than the man who knows the ins-and-outs of the company, the longest-tenured WWE employee? Wrestlers would have to Out-Think the Fink in order to have their requests granted.
