PARKS BLOG: Review of last week's Smackdown - Edge vs. Rey Mysterio, Umaga's last TV match, Jericho says "Ask him what's up!" Jun 12, 2009 - 5:45:21 PM
PWTorch VIP members have first-look access to all of Torch Smackdown specialist Greg Parks's latest blogs in the newly upgraded VIP Forum. His blogs are published first in the PWTorch VIP Forum, and Parks interacts with other VIP members and Torch staff and contributors in the blog comments area afterward. Some of Parks's blog entries will be exclusive to the VIP Forum.
Smackdown continues to shine not only in the in-ring aspect, but also giving their mid-carders something substantial to do (as opposed to Raw, where they are jobbed to Hornswoggle).
It made sense to Hardy and Edge to do a Ladder-themed interview segment, seeing as how they are two of the masters of that type of match. Edge knocking Jeff in the head with the belt looked kinda silly, but the bump Jeff ended up taking didn't. The Benjamin vs. Morrison match was fine, but that feud seems to be going nowhere as of late. It's just match after match after match, which is fine, but there has to be an angle or something involved here soon.
Chris Jericho and R-Truth had a humorous in-ring meeting before their match. The match was relatively short, but gave Truth some rub from Y2J. It was also funny to hear Jericho tell the ref, "Ask him! Ask him what's up!" while he had Truth in a submission move.
Punk vs. Umaga was fine, but I didn't like WWE giving away a match two days before a PPV, even if the stipulation wasn't involved. The Divas tag match was okay - I thought they'd give Maria more to do in the match than just be special referee. Don't know where they go with Khali vs. Ziggler from here.
The 20-minute main event of Edge vs. Rey Mysterio was fantastic, though I wonder if guys like Edge or Rey will be overexposed wrestling so often and for so long on Smackdown. The itch possibly won't be there to see them in action on a PPV. These guys are two pros, so it was no surprise that their match was awesome.
