ABSURD TNA TURNING POINT 11/9: ICP and Scott Hall Wander Into Arena, Beer Money's Insulting Finish, Angle and Abyss Set Themselves on Fire Nov 9, 2008 - 11:36:51 PM
Eric Young talks about how much TNA has grown in six years. Hard to take a guy seriously when his claim to fame this year is being a superhero and looking for Elvis. But, hopefully a step in the right direction for Young. The Young Lions can have all of the "heartwarming" speeches about their passion for wrestling; there still is not a solid reason why exactly fans wish to see the Young Lions win their fight against Main Event Mafia.
"TNA Originals" remind me a lot of the phrase of "ECW Originals," which conjures up images of Tommy Dreamer, Sandman, and Sabu. Plus, the fact that TNA has only been in existence for about six years makes it hard to call these guys "TNA Originals." There was the "original ECW" and nowadays it is the "WWE's ECW."
Not much doing in either the Knockout division match or the Bashir vs. Rhino match, as expected. Nobody really bought the PPV to see these matches.
Apparently the Insane Clown Posse and Scott Hall just wandered into the arena.
Beer Money's "Beer Spit Into Eyes" makes me think that perhaps the bookers of TNA believe that they are back in promoting wrestling in the early 20th century where the same finish could happen every night, but because they would move into a new town every week, nobody would be the wiser. Just lazy. Why did the match even take place if it largely did nothing for either teams?
If heels are not doing the same finishes every Impact, TNA will often throw into the mix the unconvincing calling of the match by the ref. Booker so far is not really impressing a lot of fans in TNA.
Good stuff with Kurt Angle and Abyss. That was a match I wanted to see.
Kudos to TNA booking for making Joe actually look strong in his loss to Kevin Nash. Will they follow up on it?
Not quite the epic match with A.J. Styles and Sting, considering the run-in at the very end of the match. The negative thing about this whole MEM-Young Lions bit is that it is hard for fans to suspend their disbelief when run-ins occur all the time. Why didn't MEM run in at the start of the match? It's an obvious question. And you know TNA could do a satisfying conclusion to the end of a PPV, but they for some odd reason don't.
It is curious to see where TNA takes the MEM-Young Lions angle. I am not looking forward to how they treat yet another month of "where Christian stands" (ugh). Tune in to see whether or not Christian will make a decision about something you don't care about!
POSITIVES
-- Tough battle between Angle and Abyss
-- The handling of Joe's lost
-- Solid Sting vs. Styles
-- Hopeful change for Eric Young
-- X Division PPV Spotfest #131
NEGATIVES
-- The X Division in general could be handled a lot better
-- The Knockout match was nothing special
-- ICP and Scott Hall thing was just too bush league
-- Bashir and Rhino was a mess
-- "Young Lions" still are portrayed as ants towards the monster MEM
-- MCMG versus Beer Money was a disappointment
-- Beer Money's recurring "Beer Spit" finish
-- Booker and Christian sleepwalked through their match and the outcome was seemingly announced a month ago by Booker.
-- A good portion of the card had bad build-up to their matches and poor outcomes
