Paragon Pro Wrestling TV Report
July 4, 2015
Episode #1 on POP TV
Taped in Las Vegas, Nev.
Report by PWTorch reader Johnny "Mad Dog"

The first episode of Paragon Pro on POP TV started shortly after 5:00 a.m. CST time on Saturday morning. After the signature PPW intro clip (with music seemingly by AC/DC and footage of prior shows and the Las Vegas strip) they went immediately to commercial. Then, came back to play another clip...the same one (this being their first TV show, it's forgivable)...then went to another commercial break.

At 5:05 (almost 5:06), they came back with another clip to welcome us to the show.

Out first was "Hammerstone," followed by Joey Ryan, Suede Thompson, Gangrel, and Tyshaun Prince (accompanied by the "Cuban Assasin") for a battle royal (with more contestants to come) to determine the number one contender to the PPW championship. Former TNA announcer Todd Keneley and Jeff Atkins checked in on commentary to welcome viewers.

Before the match, they introduced a series of clips featuring their champion Jessy Sorensen and his journey to becoming PPW champion.

1 -- BATTLE ROYAL -- #1 contender match to the PPW Title

At 5:11 a.m. the opening match begins. Tyshaun Prince jaw-jacks and tries to intimidate everyone, and gets rocked for it. Prince no-sells a lot of offense by competitors and eliminates as many. Joey Ryan is eliminated two minutes in. Gangrel eliminates Prince. The Cuban Assasin delivers a cheap shot from the outside, which helps eliminate Gangrel three minutes in. They are down to four men in the ring. Then, Caleb Konley wins shortly afterward.

WINNER: Konley in 5:00 to become the PPW Title number one contender.

They make a cut in footage with no break or promo. Up next is the second match of the show.

2 -- DARIN CORBIN vs. CRASH TEST CODY

At 5:19 a.m., the match begins. Corbin works over CTC in the corner and then uses the ropes to his advantage until the count of four. Corbin with a series of whips, knee strikes, and stomps and goes for a cover that only results in a two count. Corbin battles back with rapid-fire fists into the corner until his momentum is reversed and is covered again, only for another two.

Corbin hits a reverse-neckbreaker two minutes in. He goes for two more covers, resulting only in two counts and he is getting frustrated. Corbin hits a series of headbutts on CTC and almost hits "Gingersnap" until CTC regains momentum and catches Corbin by the leg. "CTC" goes for a cover after an "Ambulance Chaser" attempt, but gets only a two count. CTC drop-toeholds Corbin into a bottom turnbuckle and goes for a cannonball, but Corbin hits the Gingersnap for the win.

WINNER: Corbin in 4:00.

The announcers continue to hype Jessy Sorensen who goes into promo-mode hyping himself as a the PPW "World champion of the world." He reminds viewers he broke his neck a few years ago and vows to remain PPW champion.

Joey Ryan is seen hyping himself in the mirror. He claims he's "...greatness personified." He continues his pep-talk, saying he's "ready for action." A woman brings towels and asks him to sign for them. Joey signs for them after asking how much his autographs are worth and wraps a towel around the woman's head. Joey finishes hyping himself in the mirror saying he's sleazy.

3 -- ESPIRITU vs. MERCURIO, JR.

Mercurio is described as the "excellence of execution" and the announcers hype that both men have a rivalry that's been fought all over Mexico. The match begins at 5:30 a.m. The announcers hype Espiritu as a "rudo" and that Mercurio cares about how he is viewed by children. Both men go into a flurry of offense early. Mercurio goes for a dropkick unsuccessfully and is clotheslined by Espiritu. Espiritu tries to remove the mask of Mercurio two minutes in, then goes for a chokehold, but Espiritu whips Mercurio into the ropes and drop-toeholds him.

Mercurio fights back with some shots to the head, but Espirutu presses him against the ropes. Espiritu with chops, but he only gets a two count. Mercurio goes for a cover, then Espiritu jaws with the ref. Espiritu hooks the ropes behind the ref's back after a sunset-flip, then gets a cover for three.

WINNER: Espiritu in 5:00.

Lisa Marie (Tara/Victoria) is out with a microphone. She immediately begins heeling it up after a fan says they "ove her. She hypes a "vicious sociopathic" person: "The Tollman." She is told to shut up by the fans, then "Kevin Kross, The Tollman" comes out. His opponent is "Sugar Brown," who is hyped as a boxer.

4 -- KEVIN KROSS (w/Lisa Marie Varon) vs. SUGAR BROWN

The match begins at 5:39 a.m. Sugar Brown hits some boxing punches early, but is shrugged off. He then goes for a drop-toehold and flip for an unsuccessful cover. Kros" takes Sugar Brown to task in the corner and stands on him while on the ropes. He hits a running knee. Kross hits a running slam into the "tree-of-woe" in the corner on Brown. Brown goes for a splash after Kross telegraphs, and the announcers say it's time to "pay the toll" Kross hits "Doomsday Saito" for the win.

WINNER: Kross in 3:00.

The announcers hype the main event between PPW champion Jessey Sorensen and Joe Graves.

A clip for the "Whirlwind Gentlemen" airs. They have a funky, rhyming shtick. They say they'll "land" in two weeks.

For the main event, Joe Graves comes out in war paint and intimidates young fans. Jessy Sorensen is out to a pop, then ring announcer Kris Kross gives the formal introductions. The announcers give keys to victory: stay on Sorensen's neck and be fast, respectively.

5 -- PPW champion JESSY SORENSEN vs. JOE GRAVES -- non-title match

The match begins at 5:49 a.m. Sorensen utilizes some whips and fast clotheslines. Graves gets out and goes for a cover for two. Graves puts a boot on Sorensen while on the ropes, working over his repaired neck. He goes for a cover, and it results in another two. Graves again uses the ropes and his boots to work over Sorensen by the neck. Graves continues to take advantage of the five-count and rubs his knee into Sorensen's head.

Sorensen comes back for a two count, but Graves gets the "hooks" in with a choke-hold-like maneuver, shades of a certain suplex machine. Graves distracts the ref by taking off a turnbuckle and begins taking tape off. Sorensen is then taken out via a sleeperhold, but another official comes in and reverses the result.

WINNER: Sorensen via reverse decision in 6:00.

The announcers hype next week's show which features Sorensen taking on Caleb Konley for the PPW Title.

Overall a decent show for an upstart indy wrestling promotion's first TV taping going one hour on an obscure network at an early timeslot. This is more of a show that showcases the young unknowns, and should be viewed as such. With respect to the performers, I believe viewers should not expect long, technically-sound matches just yet. Thanks for watching along with me tonight...er...this morning.
