Lucha Underground Report
November 26, 2014
Taped in Los Angeles, Calif.
Episode #5 aired on El Rey Network
Report by Joel Dehnel, PWTorch contributor

Announcers: Matt Striker and Vampiro.

Lucha Underground opened with a video package recalling the events of the past three weeks involving Drago, Chavo Guerrero, Prince Puma and Johnny Mundo.

Opening credits rolled which brought us to The Temple to begin the show.

Backstage: Konnan was in Dario's office. Konnan said he wasn't going to drink with those who attack Prince Puma. He then requested a match tonight between Big Ryck and Prince Puma in a street fight.

In ring: Announcer Melissa Santos introduced Mil Muertes to the ring. Drago then made his way to the ring.

1 -- MIL MUERTES (w/Catrina) vs. DRAGO

Muertes attacked Drago from behind. Drago escaped and hit a cork screw from the top and went for a pin. Muertes then hit a power slam and continued to dominate Drago. Muertes beat Drago on the outside then drug him back to the ring. Muertes hit another running power slam for a two count. Drago made a comeback with a series of kicks and and a springboard DDT. Drago headed to the top and dove off, but was speared by Muertes. Muertes brought Drago to his feet and planted his face into the mat for the win.

WINNER: Mil Muertes at 3:58.

After the match, Drago laid flat in the ring. King Cuerno made his way to the ring and attacked Drago.

Back from the break, a video package aired detailing Johnny Mundo's story.

Backstage: Dario ran into Mil Muertes and Catrina. Catrina told Dario that darkness can't be locked away forever.

In ring: Santos introduced Son of Havoc to the ring for his upcoming match. Mascarita Sagrada soon followed.

[Break]

2 -- MASCARITA SAGRADA vs. SON OF HAVOC (w/Ivelisse)

Sagrada took control early with a few arm drags until Havoc escaped the ring. Havoc went for a chokeslam, but Sagrada rolled through and went for a pin. Havoc then tossed Sagrada around the ring. Havoc hit a full body press and followed by a standing moonsault. Havoc continued to dominate and showed cockiness. Sagrada escaped and dove to the outside onto Ivelisse. He chased her on the outside until Havoc got involved. Sagrada ran to the top rope and dove onto Havoc on the outside. They both returned to the ring and Sagrada got the win with a roll-through pin.

WINNER: Mascarita Sagrada at 4:53.

Announcers: Striker plugged the match-ups later in the show.

[Break]

In ring: Santos introduced Sexy Star to the ring. Her opponent tonight is Chavo Guerrero.

3 -- CHAVO GUERRERO, JR. vs. SEXY STAR

Star tried to knock over Chavo, but he over powered her. Chavo forced a kiss on her and Star escaped and knocked Chavo to the outside. Star ran out and grabbed a chair and kicked the referee for a DQ.

WINNER: Chavo Guerrero via DQ at 2:11.

Post-match, Pentagon, Jr. came out to help Chavo. Fenix then made the save for Star and they both took out Chavo and Pentagon.

[Break]

In ring: Santos explained the rules of the street fight and introduced Big Ryck accompanied by Cisco and Cortez Castro. Puma was then introduced.

4 -- BIG RYCK (w/Cisco and Cortez Castro) vs. PRINCE PUMA

Puma attacked Ryck quickly, but was thrown down. Ryck whipped Puma into the corner and man handled him around the ring. Cortez and Cisco came in to help Ryck, but Puma took them out. Puma did a corkscrew onto Castro, Cisco and Ryck on the outside. Ryck took out Puma in the ring. Ryck threw Puma into a trash can into the corner. Castro and Cortez came into the ring and started to beat down Puma.

Puma eventually countered and started to take out Ryck with a kendo stick. Ryck over-powered Puma and Cisco and Castro recovered. They threw Puma into a ladder. Johnny Mundo jumped down from the rafters to save Puma. He took out Ryck and began to maul his face. Mundo grabbed the chair and accidentally knocked out Puma. Ryck then grabbed Puma and side slammed him through a table for the win.

WINNER: Big Ryck at 11:18.

FINAL THOUGHTS: All the ongoing storylines were advanced on this show, which made it feel important... I really liked when Striker plugged the upcoming match-ups, which gave the viewer incentive to stay tuned... Again, the chair shots bothered me, but what really stood out to me was when Vampiro and Striker praised Son Of Havoc for taking out small wrestlers and women wrestlers. I don't believe that is an effective way to establish Son of Havoc as a heel when you praise him for doing awful things. Other than those two things, this was another solid edition of Lucha Underground that gets me excited for next week.
