TNA EPICS TV REPORT 6/20: TNA re-lives the Jeff Jarrett vs. Hulk Hogan match from Japan that never happened, Jarrett vs. Duggan and Sting Jun 21, 2009 - 3:15:34 PM
TNA Epics TV Show report
June 20, 2009 - Week 6
Aired on Bravo in the U.K.
Report by Cody Endres, Torch TV contributor
- The show has been moved from Friday nights to Saturday nights.
-The show opened with footage from a press conference with Hulk Hogan from October 13, 2003 in Tokyo, Japan. Hogan had just defeated Masahiro Chono on a New Japan Pro Wrestling show. Hogan told reporters he had unfinished business in the United States and wanted to go after the NWA Championship. Jeff Jarrett entered and smashed a guitar over his head.
-Following the opening montage, host Mick Foley introduced us to the show. On this show, we look back at the most controversial and headline making moments in pro-wrestling (TNA) history. Foley said that when Jarrett brought TNA to Hogan it was an international event that put the promotion on the map.
-Footage aired from the October 15, 2003 weekly PPV held in Nashville, Tenn. Don West & Mike Tenay were talking about the incident that took place in Japan with Jarrett attacking Hogan. West is wearing one of those awesome outfits where his tie is the exact same color as his shirt. They hold up a few Japanese newspapers with stories on the Hogan-Chono match. Highlights of the match aired. Hogan ended up defeating Chono after his Axe-Bomb lariat finisher. Footage from the press conference where Jarrett attacked Hogan was shown again.

-Back from the break, cameras caught Foley talking to his Cactus Jack t-shirt. "Yes, you are the hardcore legend," he said. Foley said that in October of 2003 rumors were circulating that Hulk Hogan was planning on coming to TNA to challenge for the NWA Title.
-More footage aired from the October 15, 2003 PPV. Mike Tenay was interviewing Jeff Jarrett in the ring. Jarrett said that he had a title shot scheduled for next week and he would be damned if Hogan came in and stole that opportunity from him. Fans chanted for Hogan. Jarrett said that when Hogan comes into a promotion he takes all the money and all the credit. Jarrett said that him and Hogan had a lot of past issues. Tenay asked about Florida. Jarrett told Tenay to never bring that up again. Jarrett said that next week he would be getting his title shot. Vince Russo ran into the ring and tackled Jarrett through the ropes. They brawled into the audience and exchanged chair shots across the back. This went on forever. Jarrett tied Russo to a fence and continued the attack with a trashcan and a chair. Security tried to stop him, so Jarrett destroyed them with the trashcan. Finally, Stone Cold Jeff Jarrett was ran off by Sonny Siaki and Ecmo (Umaga).

-Footage aired with Jeff Jarrett at the Tokyo Dome in January 2008. Presumably, this was taped during the Global Impact show. Jarrett gloated about this attack on Hogan and reminisced about how he executed his plan. Dear Lord, how long do we have to hear about this?
-Mike Tenay interviews Jimmy Hart from the October 22, 2003 PPV. Hart talked about the 2000 Bash at the Beach incident and asked why Jarrett would lay down like that. Jarrett came out and asked Hart not to bring that up. Hart said that fans wanted to know why. Jarrett said he was answering this one time only. Instead of answering, Jarrett attacked Hart. Jarrett ripped off Hart's t-shirt and tied him to the ropes. He then whipped Hart with a belt. A.J. Styles ran out to make the save. Who could forget the fabulous Hogan vs. Jarrett match this led to? Oh, that's right. The match never happened. Moving ahead in the show, Jeff Jarrett has just defeated A.J. Styles to reclaim the NWA Championship. Jimmy Hart interrupted and was irate about being whipped earlier in the evening. Hart said that next week he was bringing in someone he used to manage and that he'd get revenge.

1 – NWA Champion JEFF JARRETT vs. JIM DUGGAN – Non-title Match
This is from the October 29, 2003 weekly PPV from Nashville, Tenn. Hart introduced Duggan on the entrance ramp and said he was the first person to call him after what occurred last week. Duggan said he was going to teach Jarrett about loyalty. Tenay brought up Duggan winning the WCW U.S. Title from Steve Austin years ago. Jarrett blindsides Duggan to start the match. Duggan hits a series of clotheslines and Jarrett gets out of the ring. They brawl over by the announcer's table. Duggan grabs a pumpkin and hits Jarrett with it. Back in the ring, Jarrett regains control with some double axe handles off the second rope. Duggan catches Jarrett and chokeslams him. Duggan connects with a clothesline out of the three-point stance. Duggan attempts to grab his 2x4, but Don Callis jumps on the apron and they have a tug-of-war battle. While the referee is busy with Callis, Jarrett breaks his guitar over Duggan's head and makes the cover for the win.
WINNER: Jeff Jarrett in 3:41. Horrendous.
-After the match, Jarrett called out Hart. Hart said that his match was just the tip of the iceberg. Rick Steiner entered the ring and surprised Jarrett from behind. Steiner nailed Jarrett with some clotheslines and a t-bone suplex. Steiner attempted his bulldog off the second rope, but Jarrett pulled the ref in the way. Jarrett grabs another guitar and hits Steiner with it. Jarrett asked Hart if that was the best he could do. Hart said that next week it would be Jarrett vs. Sting.

2 – JEFF JARRETT vs. STING – NWA Championship Match
This is from the November 5, 2003 weekly PPV in Nashville, Tenn. Sting enters to a nice ovation. The bell rings and Jarrett ducks to the outside. Back in the ring, Sting sends Jarrett down with a shoulder block and a running clothesline. Sting attempts the scorpion deathlock, but Jarrett reaches the ropes. Both men brawl into the crowd. Sting hits Jarrett across the back a few times with a chair. Sting throws Jarrett onto the announcers table and hits him with a fan. Jarrett is busted open. Jarrett locks a sleeper hold on in the middle of the ring. Sting battles back and hits a stinger splash in the corner. Sing attempts the scorpion deathlock again, but Jarrett kicks him off and knocks the referee down in the process. Jarrett grabs the title at ringside and tries to hit Sting. Sting ducks and gives Jarrett the scorpion deathdrop. The ref starts to count, but Don Callis pulls him out of the ring. Jarrett grabs the title and hits Sting. This time, Jimmy Hart breaks up the pinfall. Sting sinks in the scorpion deathlock. Red Shirt security runs in, but Sting takes them both out. Jarrett hits Sting with a chair to prompt a DQ.
WINNER: Sting by DQ in 8:38. Good match until the run-in shenanigans.
-Following the match, Red Shirt security and Jarrett put the boots to Sting. Raven runs out to make the save. Jarrett takes Raven down with an enziguiri. A.J. Styles takes out the Red Shirts with a springboard crossbody. The Red Shirts recover quickly and take out Styles with a powerbomb-neckbreaker combination. Abyss walks down the entrance ramp and clears the ring. Abyss and Styles shake hands, but Abyss hits him with the Black Hole Slam and joins Jarrett's stable. Jarrett grabs a guitar to hit Sting, but Sting destroys the guitar with his baseball bat. Sting goes to town on Abyss and the Red Shirts with his bat.
