TNA IMPACT ROUNDTABLE REVIEWS 6/18: Hoops, Parks, Wilkenfeld rate and review Jun 19, 2009 - 2:19:41 PM
This was a decent episode of Impact. With this being their go home show for the Slammiversary PPV on Sunday, I know what a couple of the matches are and why the matches are happening, so that is an improvement. There seems to be a better focus on developing some of the wrestlers and main angles, rather than throwing so much stuff out there for a viewer to absorb. Some of the backstage segments were actually amusing and the wrestling action was just OK.
I like the Samoa Joe character and the way he is being rebuilt. Joe, Styles and Daniels would seem like a money combination. The Matt Morgan-Sting storyline is basic enough to make sense. For some reason, Morgan reminds me of Sid Vicious in the late nineties. A big guy with a look and not much else to offer who never improves. The company must be worried Angle is leaving when his contract expires later this year as the focus of the recent shows has moved off of him and he has been doing a lot of TV and house show jobs.

One day later, there isn't a whole lot I remember about last night's Impact. The main-event sure was star-studded, but it didn't necessarily pay off in the ring. No excuse for Mick Foley to bring in a clown and NOT have it be Yurple. Jay Lethal completely cracked me up during his backstage interview.
Raven summed up the Abyss character for the last five years in his one minute promo. I wish TNA had done a better job getting across those points all these years. It looks like TNA is elevating someone in Matt Morgan, who got to play off Kurt Angle last week and now faces Sting on Sunday.

Anyone who reads this regularly knows that I don't place a super emphasis on work-rate and such, but having a show with exactly one match that broke the four minute mark is pushing things even for me. Some of the mic work was solid, as they rehabilitated Joe a bit and had some forward progress along a few other dimensions, but nothing to make up for the lack of wrestling. Also, I'm dropping them a grade because of the annoying late commercial.
