When TNA shifts Impact TV tapings away from Orlando to new venues starting in March, it has potential to significantly alter wrestlers's travel schedules and TNA's touring structure.
"This will change everything for our wrestlers," reads a portion of Dixie Carter's pre-announcement tweet on Wednesday.
For wrestlers who are local to Florida, it means flying - rather than driving - to television unless TNA is on the road somewhere else in Florida. For a wrestler on the West Coast, though, such as Rob Van Dam, it means potential for shorter flight distances depending on where TNA is taping on a given week. But, a TV taping in the Northeast will be just the same, if not longer, compared to flying to Orlando.
Overall, it's a big change for creature-of-habit wrestlers, but they were also prepared for the change since Impact going on the road was the next "dangling carrot." Throughout Hulk Hogan's three-year tenure in TNA, Hogan has talked about wanting to take Impact on the road, so talent knew to be ready. They're also prepared because of TNA's increased house show touring in recent years.
Talent have also been wanting this change. Bobby Roode talked about wanting to take Impact out of Universal Studios six years ago in a PWTorch exclusive interview. Even at that time, it was apparent that the Orlando crowd had seen everything and was burnt out on the product. Just recently, Magnus said in an interview that TNA "needs to get out of the Impact Zone."
TNA's touring schedule will be interesting going forward after the Lockdown PPV in March. Besides a WrestleMania Weekend show in New York, the only other tour dates announced after Lockdown are a pair of shows in Kentucky on March 15 & 16 following the Chicago TV taping on Mar. 14.
As TNA begins announcing Thursday TV venues in the weeks to come, house show dates will likely follow. It makes sense to set up a system of one-to-three weekend house shows following the Thursday TV tapings. This would be the reverse of WWE's schedule starting with weekend house shows, then finishing with television on Monday and Tuesday.
