TNA Lockdown PPV live report
April 15, 2012
Nashville, Tenn.
Report by Daryl, PWTorch reader

Lockdown2012_140_2.jpg

I thought Lockdown Sunday night was an overall better PPV outing than TNA Wrestling has delivered in a long time. I disagree with the general view on the poor crowd response to some matches from my perspective sitting ringside in the first few rows.

In the row in front of me, I had a bunch of guys asking me who was the good guy or bad guy. Somehow, they found themselves at a wrestling PPV. Amazing. There were also many "Yes!" chants in the front row, but you couldn't hear them on the PPV.

- Lethal Lockdown: Fans either booed or shouted for Garett's head, and no one seemed to care for him. But, fans were into this match for the most part. It's just pathetic that A.J. and others had to take a backseat to Garett.

- Samoa Joe/Magnus vs. Motor City Machineguns: Honestly, I think the crowd wasn't into this one because it followed the first match. Most fans, including myself, wanted to rest. Also, it was hard to cheer for either team because I'm a fan of both teams. Regardless, the crowd responded better than the TV presentation indicated.

- Robbie E. Vs Devon: Little interest for this match because of a lack of story build-up, and the TV Title has little value. It should be scrapped or vacated to somehow legitimize the title. Robbie E. and "Bigger Rob" were funny, though, with "The List."

- Velvet Sky vs. Gail Kim: Not a bad match, but the fans were only into this match because women were in the ring. Other than that, the crowd wasn't into this one.

- The crowd was crazy for Ric Flair. It was great to see Flair in a promo without other people such as Immortal. Hogan got a good ovation, but it's hard to cheer for a guy who just finished a one-and-a-half-year takeover of the company from Dixie Carter. Logic is needed in storylines, and Hogan suddenly being in charge like nothing happened is insulting, I believe.

- Morgan vs. Crimson: Little to no crowd response. Crimson was a local guy pre-TNA, yet wasn't hated or liked by the crowd. This match was flat due to the crowd not caring about either one. After all, they were a team for "two minutes," then broke up. Without investment into the team or a reason for the match, no interest was garnered.

- Hardy vs. Angle: Great match. The crowd responded and a "Holy s---!" chant ensued. Honestly, I looked to the sky and found no outpouring of divine feces. The crowd was into this one.

- Rosita/Sarita vs. EY/ODB: Comedy matche that served as time to get popcorn or to rest. Young was hilarious, but this was a forgettable match. This served as a buffer to gear up the audience for the Main Event.

- Roode vs. Storm: Contrary to most opinions, I thought this match had a bigger and better response than Angle vs. Hardy. Roode was booed heavily during his promo, the crowd was into this one, and they were ready for Storm to take the title. Great match and an ending that didn't hurt either wrestler, as I'm sure it's building up to culminate at Slammiversary. Why did Hebner hand a beer bottle to Roode, though? I have no clue, but this stuff makes no sense. As an official, his job is to keep order and abide by the rules. Nonetheless, the match was built up well and carried out well. These two will meet again.

Overall, a better PPV outing from TNA than I've seen in a while. I'm hoping to see Impact improve and see TNA resolve inane storylines by this Thursday.
