TNA News: TNA Impact quarter-hour rating notes - Morgan vs. Steiner most-watched, TNA unable to hold viewer interest, Did Nigel McGuinness make an impact on ratings? Oct 26, 2009 - 11:26:21 AM
The October 22 episode of TNA Impact following the Bound for Glory PPV averaged a 1.10 rating, which was up 17 percent from the Super Impact episode on October 15.
The quarter-hour ratings were all over the place for the latest Impact episode. The show peaked in the third quarter-hour with a 1.22 rating after hitting the lowest point in the previous quarter-hour with a 1.02 rating. Also, the first hour averaged a 1.13 rating compared to a 1.07 for the second hour. More of a break down below...
Quarter-Hour Notes
-- The show's most-watched 15-minute segment was the third quarter-hour, which featured Matt Morgan vs. Scott Steiner and the first-half of the A.J. Styles & Daniels vs. Samoa Joe & Kevin Nash match.
-- The show's least-watched 15-minute segment was the second quarter-hour, which featured Amazing Red vs. Homicide, the TNA World Title announcement for the next PPV, and two commercial breaks.
-- Nigel McGuinness's debut as Desmond Wolfe debut did not lead to any significant change in the ratings. His backstage attack on Kurt Angle in the sixth quarter-hour was part of the most-watched segment of the second hour (1.12), but it didn't lead to a boost for the final quarter-hour (1.07) when McGuinness attacked Angle in the ring.
-- The featured Knockouts match of the week between Awesome Kong and Raisha Saeed to start the second hour only averaged a 1.05 rating. It was tied with the seventh quarter-hour for being the least-watched segment of the important second hour. The match-up captures my belief that if a quote/unquote "beautiful Knockout" is not featured in the segment, then viewers tune out and channel-surfers don't stay put for their eye candy fix.
-- The show opened with a 1.11 quarter-hour rating for the Bound for Glory recap, Kurt Angle speech, and interaction between Angle, Team 3D, and Rhino. Not much to read into that, as it was right in line with the overall show average. The show then dropped to a 1.02 rating for the second quarter-hour, thought, which shows the opening segment didn't hold viewer interest for what was going to happen next on the show. That conclusion can also be applied to the overall show since the first hour drew a higher rating than the second hour.
