TNA News: Impact Ratings about the same as usual, with big drop after first quarter hour (w/Keller Analysis) Sep 9, 2008 - 3:27:32 PM
Last Thursday's Sept. 4 TNA Impact drew a 1.03 rating, down from the 1.05 and 1.11 rating of the previous two weeks.
The show opened with a 1.21 rating, which would be the highest of the show. That segment featured a lot of talking from Kurt Angle, Booker T, Christian Cage, and Jim Cornette. From there it dropped more than a full tenth of a rating point for the Consequence Creed "Rough Cut" video package and the Sheik Abdul Bashir vs. Creed match. It dropped even more to a show-low 0.89 for a segment without much of anything major (two commercial breaks, an interview with Beer Money backstage, an interview with Beautiful People backstage, a video package on Abyss), then rebounded for the Shark Boy & Super Eric vs. Beer Money and Abyss vs. Johnny Devine matches.
The second hour improved to a 1.08 in Q5 for ODB vs. Ryesha Saeed - no surprise there. A segment with two commercial breaks and the backstage interview with A.J. Styles blowing out his lungs dropped to a 0.96 - second lowest of the show. Ratings grew from there for the Styles vs. Christian match and Sting's second big promo in as many weeks, ending with a 1.10 in Q8 - the highest since the opening quarter.
Keller's Analysis: Some of the ups and downs were minor and predictably in segments with two commercial breaks or not many big names. Overall, about what you'd predict if you were look at the breakdown of the quarters. As usual the women's match was the highest rated match of the show, but Sting showed some ratings power (in as much as a 0.06 jump should count as ratings power for someone of his pay level and stature) at the end of the show.
