TNA Impact Ratings: Despite loaded main event and Knockout Title match, ratings news not good (w/Keller Reax) May 19, 2008 - 3:44:16 PM
The May 15 edition of TNA Impact drew a 0.9 rating again with total viewership of 1.1 million. It opened with a 1.05 in Q1, then dropped from there to a range of 0.79 to 0.92. As usual, the TNA Knockouts matches were the highest rated (Awesome Kong vs. Gail Kim for the TNA Knockouts Title drew the highest rating of the first hour other than Q1, which is always the highest every week and the Knockouts tag match popped the highest rating of the second hour - 0.92).
The lowest rated segments were the start of the second hour when Kurt Angle gave a long speech about his drama with his wife Karen and A.J. Styles leading to LAX vs. The Motor City Machine Guns and Mike Tenay's sitdown interview with Sting.
The main event dropped from 0.92 to 0.87 for the main event six-man tag match.
KELLER'S ANALYSIS The TNA Knockouts continue to bring in viewers, while surprisingly the wrestlers with the most mainstream national exposure and WWE TV time such as Booker T, Team 3D, Christian, and Rhino this week drew a lesser rating. Why do I believe, though, that the Knockouts won't be getting contracts anywhere near the pay level of the men who consistently draw lesser ratings? It's a hunch, and I hope I'm wrong, as Kim, Kong, ODB, and the Beautiful People have really established a diverse mix of attractive, compelling characters who can also deliver in the ring (to varying levels).
