PENICK'S WRESTLEMANIA 25 REPORT: On-going alt perspective coverage of the (not quite) 25th anniversary of Wrestlemania
Apr 5, 2009 - 10:02:54 PM

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

With James Caldwell in Houston live for the show tonight, I'm here to step in to cover the 25th edition of Wrestlemania tonight! There is also a free MMA show on the Versus network tonight, WEC 40, and over on MMATorch.com our Senior Columnist, Shawn Ennis, will have the live report there. So if you're just reading this tonight and not watching the pay-per-view, be sure to check out WEC 40 tonight on Versus at 9 p.m. ET. And stick around here tonight, as Wrestlemania begins soon!

-We get reflections from numerous superstars on their favorite Wrestlemanias, matches, moments and more. Good opening video.

-Nicole Sherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls sings America the Beautiful.

-Jim Ross introduces us to the show, and then Michael Cole points out the briefcase suspended from the top and we're starting with the Money in the Bank Ladder Match.

1-MONEY IN THE BANK LADDER MATCH (C.M. PUNK vs. MARK HENRY vs. MVP vs. FINLAY vs. SHELTON BENJAMIN vs. KOFI KINGSTON vs. CHRISTIAN vs. KANE)

Christian and Shelton ran to the outside and Kane started taking people out of the ring. Mark Henry and Kane ended up alone in the ring and Henry got the better of it in the corner. Christian and Shelton brought in a ladder and took out Kane and Henry. Kofi jumped over the ladder and dropkicked both Christian and Shelton down and pulled his double leg drop move on the ladder. Kane took a few guys out and started climbing a ladder he set up but everyone came in the ring and took him out. They pushed him out of the ring and then they pushed Henry out too. Four guys got onto two ladders and Henry and Kane sent them all to the floor. Kane got Henry out and then started climbing the ladder again until Henry took him out. Henry threw a ladder at Finlay but it missed and went out of the ring. Finlay then pulled a suicide dive to the outside. Christian then pulled a springboard to the outside on a couple of guys and MVP followed it up with a dive of his own. CM Punk and Kofi pulled off a tandem suicide dive to the outside. Shelton Benjamin climbed a gigantic ladder and pulled a swanton to the crowd and he looked to miss by a tad and take a ton of damage. He seems to be ok though. Mark Henry tried climbing on the top rope but got stopped by Finlay. Hornswoggle brought out a little ladder and climbed onto Henry prone in the corner to dive onto the crowd. Kofi swung through a ladder to take Finlay out in a sweet spot and tried to get him in the corner but Finlay threw the step ladder at him. He took out a bunch of other people with the step ladder and set up a big one in the middle. He tried to climb it but Kofi leaped up to give him an enzuguri. Kofi started to climb but Mark Henry knocked his ladder down. Henry had the ladder up straight and Kofi walked up it. That was awesome. Henry toppled him, caught him and slammed him on the ladder. MVP then hit Henry with a ladder that got set up between the set up ladder and the rope. Shelton came in and him and MVP used the flat ladder as a platform. MVP powerbombed Shelton. CM Punk came in and started to climb the ladder but Christian came in to stop him. He gave him an unprettier off the set up. Another ladder was set up on the outside and Shelton ran up it to MVP and tried a sunset flip powerbomb that failed. Small "you fu***ed up" chant. He picked up MVP and threw him onto some people at ringside. He then tried to climb up but Finlay came up. He smacked him and sent him down. Christian came in and they had two ladders set up. Christian pulled the ladder down sending Shelton down but he stopped his foot on the rope and got back set up. Punk jumped to the ladder and tried to stop Christian but he got his foot caught in. Kane came in and gave Christian a choke slam off the ladder. Punk got himself back up and kicked Kane off. He then grabbed the briefcase to win for the second straight year.

WINNER: CM PUNK in about 20 minutes.

MATCH THOUGHTS: Hell of an opening match to start the show. Not the best MITB match they've had, but it had a ton of really exciting and surprisingly innovative spots incorporated to make this one stand out. Somewhat anti-climactic finish but quite an exciting affair. Good start to the show.

-Video package on the Fan Axxess week.

-Time for a Kid Rock performance of Bawitdaba. Yay it's 1999 again. Seriously, people didn't spend $55 to watch this. Let's move on already. They use this as the entrance for the 25 Diva Battle Royal.

2 - 25 DIVA BATTLE ROYAL

The action begins right away and this is for the first ever title of Miss Wrestlemania. Mae Young is not in the match. Rosa Mendes gets eliminated first. Layla gets eliminated early as well. Santino is in drag in the ring right now, words cannot describe that greatness. There's far too much randomness going on in the ring right now. Victoria eliminates Maria. Gail Kim messed up her elimination of Jillian and took herself out. Kelly Kelly and Molly Holly got eliminated. I didn't even see Molly! Victoria got eliminated by Beth Pheonix. She eliminated both of the Bella twins. Down to Michelle McCool, Mickie James, Melina, Beth Pheonix and Santina. Mickie and Michelle take each other out. Melina tried to pull Beth out and then Santina eliminated both of them. Candice Michelle came in with a crown and sash for "Miss Wrestlemania." I called it. Santino said he was "Santina. Santino Marella's twin sister from Italy." He gets flustered in emotional celebration. Then he starts dancing in the ring in completely uncomfortable awesomeness.

WINNER: Santina Marella in about 10 minutes.

MATCH THOUGHTS: That was a complete clustermess and an excuse for some Santino comedy. It was fine as early show filler.

-Video package for the Jericho vs. Legends match.

3 - CHRIS JERICHO VS. RODDY PIPER, JIMMY SNUKA AND RICKY STEAMBOAT (W/RIC FLAIR) - GAUNTLET MATCH

Piper argues with Snuka and Steamboat to start the match. He attacks Jericho from the outset and clotheslines him over the top. J.R. said the offense might be "bowling show ugly" from the legends but they'll fight their hearts out. Piper pulled off a sunset flip to a near pin. He then pulled off a drop kick. It was bowling shoe ugly. After a bit more Snuka wanted the tag. Piper slammed Jericho's head into Snuka's. Steamboat Got the tag and went to the top and came down with a pig right hand. He gave Jericho consecutive arm drags and started working on Jericho's left arm. He brought him to the legends corner and tagged Snuka back in. Snuka played to the crowd and Jericho tossed him down and got the Walls of Jericho in. Snuka tapped.

-First Elimination: Snuka-

Piper then took over after Jericho wouldn't let go of the hold. Piper tossed him to the corner and delivered a kick. Piper then gave him a poke to the eyes. Jericho took a few more shots and pulled out an enzuguri and got the pin.

-Second Elimination: Piper-

Steamboat came off the top with a cross body and then tried to work Jericho again. Jericho pulled out a clothesline out of nowhere and took over on offense. Steamboat started to fight back and Jericho sent him over the rope. Flair distracted Jericho as Steamboat skinned the cat. Jericho came back at him and Steamboat tossed him to the outside. He then dove onto Jericho at ringside. He came off the top with another right hand after throwing Jericho into the ring. Steamboat got a roll through for a two count but Jericho then took over. He got the running bulldog. He went for the lionsault and Steamboat got out of the way. He tried to get Jericho in the corner but he kicked him away. Steamboat got a powerslam for a near fall. Jericho tried to get the Walls of Jericho but Steamboat turned it into a small package for a near fall. Jericho then pulled out the codebreaker for the pin and the win. Flair then came into the ring and started chopping and punching Jericho in the corner. Jericho came back and pulled out the code breaker on Flair and kicked him out of the ring. He then grabbed the mic and said "I am the best in the world at what I do." He said he did what he said he would do. He called out Rourke at ringside and told him to come in the ring and apologize to him or he would jump the rail and slap him in the face. Frank Shamrock was with Rourke at ringside. Rourke stood up, took off his watch and got out of the crowd and onto the ramp. He played to the crowd a little bit. He took off his jacket and walked to the ring. He slowly walked up the steps and took a deep breath, played to the crowd and stepped in the ring. He shadowboxed a little bit in the corner. Rourke started shaking his shoulders a bit in a little more shadowboxing. He came in and tossed a couple of jabs at Jericho, sending him to the corner shocked. Rourke was ready to box. Jericho tried to throw a punch but Rourke dropped him with a left hook. Flair got back in the ring and celebrated with Rourke.

WINNER: Jericho in about 15 minutes.

MATCH THOUGHTS: Steamboat was highly impressive. He was in great shape and looked like he was good to go in there. That was awesome to see, and then WWE got their moment with Rourke knocking out Jericho. Not a bad match at all, and they got their "big star" moment.

4 - MATT HARDY VS. JEFF HARDY - EXTREME RULES MATCH

Matt came out first and was extremely intense. Jeff came out in full face paint again. Jeff looked calmly at Matt and then slapped him to start it off. He followed Matt to the outside and pulled a picture frame from under the ring to hit Matt with it. He grabbed a trash can and tried to hit him but Matt got in a kick to the gut. Jeff tossed him to the barrier and did his running leg dive off of the stairs. He tried to do it in the ring to the corner but Matt moved out of the way. He went for the Whisper in the Wind and Matt hit him in the back of the legs with a chair. Matt grabbed a Shop Vac from under the ring and hit Jeff in the head with it. Jeff kicked Matt off of him in the corner but Matt caught him and landed a side effect onto a steel chair for a near fall. Matt put a boot to Jeff's face in the corner. He went to the outside and stretched Jeff's body against the ringpost. Matt grabbed a table from under the ring and set it up on the outside. He set Jeff up for suplex but Jeff fought out of it. Matt walked over to the side and Jeff ran and flew at him. He pulled off his spinning kick and tossed Matt into the stairs. He grabbed a kendo stick and a crutch. He grabbed a trash can and put it over Matt's head and hit him with the kendo stick tossing him into the corner. Then he did his springboard kick to the trash can. He went for the Swanton but Matt rolled out of it. Matt hit the Twist of Fate on Jeff for a nearfall. Jeff hit Matt on the top rope and went up to get a superplex. He grabbed a chair and hit Matt right in the top of the head, sending him to the outside. Jeff set Matt up on the table on the outside. He hits him with the chair and put the chair on top of him. Jeff set up a second table on top of the one that Matt was on. He then went up to the top rope and just splashed him through both tables and Matt. Nice spot. He pulled him into the ring to try to get a pin and Matt got his foot on the rope. Rope breaks in an extreme rules match are stupid. Jeff went back outside and pulled two ladders out from under the ring. Jeff set up a chair mid ring and used it as a springboard for a leg drop. The ladders Jeff brought in are gigantic. Jeff jumped over the top of the large ladder for a leg drop and Matt rolled out, leaving him to land straight on his ass and legs. Matt set Jeff's head in between the opened chair and gave him the Twist of Fate onto the chair! That was one of the greatest uses of a chair ever. Awesome move. Matt gets the pin.

WINNER: Matt Hardy in about 15 minutes.

MATCH THOUGHTS: Couple of crazy spots and an awesome finish, but definitely short of what expectations may have been for these two. It was still a good match, though, just not great.

-Commercial for the Legends of Wrestlemania videogame.

-Randy Orton was in his locker room looking intense.

5 - JBL VS. REY MYSTERIO (INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE)

JBL said he had a dream he would return home to Texas as Champion. He told the Texans they've got no Champions, no men, they need someone to look up to. He said they need him and he'll give them the most dominant win in 'Mania history, return to the "greatest city in the world," New York, and he'll still be their hero. Rey came out with a green wig and a mask that looked like "The Joker" from the Dark Knight. Strange. Rey's got suspenders tonight too. JBL gave Rey a big boot to the face before the bell even sounded. The ref pulled him off and told him to back off. The ref asked Rey if he wanted him to start the match. Rey hit the enzuguri right as the bell sounded, gave JBL the 619, went up for the splash and landed it for the 1-2-3 and Rey is your new Intercontinental Champion. JBL just sat in shock, with a booger hanging out his nose. Nice touch. He grabbed the mic, and wiped off his face. He said he's got something to say. He mouthed "this wasn't supposed to happen." He struggled for words. He yelled out "I QUIT." He dropped the mic and slowly started to walk out of the ring. He yelled to the fans as he walked up the ramp that they were going to miss him. He said the fans will never get over it.

WINNER: Rey Mysterio in :21.

MATCH THOUGHTS: Well, that was certainly one of the quickest wins in Wrestlemania history. It's a way to get him retired.

6 - UNDERTAKER VS. SHAWN MICHAELS

Shawn Gets lowered from a platform in his white jacket and hat, arms raised and head to the sky. As he gets to the stage his music hits. Undertaker comes out for his obligatory 20 minute entrance. Taker threw the first punch but Shawn ducked under it and chopped him. Early story is Shawn dodging taker and landing some offense. He throws some punches in the corner up on the ropes and lands a hard chop. Taker blocked a right hand and hurled Shawn over the turnbuckle. Shawn gave him the Dx chop from the turnbuckle and jumped over Taker. He feigned a knee injury and then leaped with a Thesz press. Taker finally fought out of it and took over on offense in the corner. Shawn countered out of the corner and went for an irish whip. Taker countered that and sent him to the corner for the flip into the turnbuckle spot. He then gave Shawn a backdrop. He picked Shawn up and gave him a press slam for a near fall. Taker grabbed the arm of Michaels and started working it over. He went for Old School and landed the shot to the arm. Shawn got out of the way of the big boot in the corner and Shawn started attacking the leg. He gave Taker an enzuguri while Taker was on his knees. Shawn went for a modified figure four; Taker blocked it at first but Shawn kicked him in the gut to lock it in. Taker pulled Shawn closer to him and punched him out of the hold. Shawn again kicked out the leg. He came off the ropes for another move but Taker picked him up and drove him to the corner. He sent Shawn to the corner hard and came in with two big slams in the corner. Then he landed the big running boot to Shawn and then a leg drop for a near fall. He signalled for the chokeslam but Shawn countered it into a crossface. The move was not locked in well. Taker tried to roll HBK into a pin but Michaels pulled it back. Michaels then got it to the correct spot for the move. Taker stood up with Shawn still trying to hook the move in and gave him a sidewalk slam for a two count. They traded shots as they both got to their feet. Shawn gave Taker a kick off the ropes and then landed a bunch of chops on him. Michaels got the springboard dive to Taker and then nipped up. Atomic drop, chop, atomic drop, chop, running clothesline to knock Taker down. Shawn went up top to go for the elbow. Taker sat up and caught Shawn as he jumped down. He went for the chokeslam but Shawn backed out and faked the superkick but Taker went to his back and pulled Shawn in for his gogoplata submission. Shawn struggled and to the rope. Michaels went to the outside and Taker followed him. He hit him into the stairs and set him up with his head outside of the ropes. He went for the leg drop and Michaels moved out of the way. Michaels landed a drop kick to Taker on the outside. He went to the top rope and went for the moonsault, but Taker moved out of the way and Michaels just landed right on the mat. Ouch. That loked really painful. Shawn hurt his shoulder there. The ref pleaded with Shawn to end the match and go to the back. Shawn argued with him. Taker ran for the dive over the top rope and he slipped up. Shawn pulled the cameraman into his dive and Taker looked to have hit his head on the mat. Taker did not get far enough and looked to land head first. He may have rolled through enogh but he's selling it hard. Taker's not moving and Shawn comes out and pulls a referee into the ring. Shawn begs the ref to count out Taker. The ref starts to count and Taker begins to stir a little bit. Shawn is looking hopeful in the corner as taker slowly starts moving. The ref is up to eight. Nine. and Taker gets back in. Nice. Michaels was just dejected. Michaels gets jacked and starts to tune the band. Taker sidestepped it and chokeslammed him. HBK kicks out. Great nearfall. Shawn countered another move and tried to get a superkick in but Taker countered it to a chokeslam. Shawn again countered that again and got a sick Sweet Chin Music. He crawled over for a cover and he got a very close nearfall. HBK nipped up again in frustration. He went to grab Taker and Taker grabbed him by the throat. Micheals countered a last ride attempt into a sunset flip. Taker put him back into the last ride and landed it. Shawn kicked out at 2 and 3/4ths. Another great nearfall. Taker again was shocked. Taker went up top and went for Shawn's flying elbow. Shawn rolled out of the way. This match is awesome. They both struggle to their feet. Shawn tried to grab Taker. He threw him over the top and tried to skin the cat but Taker pulled him in and gave him a tombstone. Shawn kicked out! Holy hell that was the greatest nearfall in years! Taker got to his feet first and did the throat slash. He picked up Shawn's prone body and went for another tombstone that Michaels countered into a ddt. It didn't land straight but it was still sweet. Shawn slowly crawled himself to the ropes and pulled himself up to the top. He landed the elbow. He pulled himself back to his feet and got to the corner. He started tuning the band. Shawn hit an amazing sweet chin music and covered Taker. Taker kicked out at 2 and 9/10ths!! Just awesome. They grappled each other to their feet and Shawn delivered a vicious chop and Taker responded with a big punch. They traded a few more shots. They go back and forth. Taker landed a big boot to the head. He went for a tombstone and Shawn fought out of it and landed a bunch more chops. Taker threw Shawn to the corner, ran in at him and Shawn landed the boot to the face. Shawn got back up again and went for the moonsault. Taker caught him and landed the tombstone again for the pin and 17-0. Amazing, amazing match. Great finish.

WINNER: Undertaker in about 30 minutes.

MATCH THOUGHTS: That lived up to all of the hype and all of the expectations. With some of the greatest nearfalls in a match in years that was the epic Wrestlemania match we all knew these two could pull off. The crowd ate up every second of it and they actually made you believe Shawn may be able to pull the win off. I don't know how you can get better than that match, except if there were a title on the line. A rematch to headline Backlash would be welcome. Awesome match.

7 - JOHN CENA VS. BIG SHOW VS. EDGE (WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP)

Apparently John Cena is Eminem now, as he brought out a ton of lookalikes to his old "Word Life" music and they lined up the ramp. They were all in his jean shorts and shirts and baseball cap. They all raised their hands and did the "You Can't See Me" to each other as Cena came out to his normal music. He ran down the lineup of Cenas and ran into the ring.

Cena starts off by hitting Show and going after Edge. Show tries to hit Cena and clotheslines Edge instead. Cena gave Edge a bulldog and then got shoulder blocked by Show. Edge wanted Show to work with him and he grabbed his hand but then lifted him and tossed him crotch first to the rope. Show threw Edge across the ring and Cena got him up on his shoulders. Show hit him with a kick and Edge rolled to the outside. Show started going to work on Cena. Cena tried to make a comeback and Show tossed him into the air. Cena ducked under a Big Show kick and tossed him to the outside. Edge dropkicked the ring steps onto Show and Cena went up to the top rope and gave the leg drop to Show on the outside. Edge tossed Cena into the ring and then tried to attack him but Cena got him up into the FU, but Edge countered it to a ddt. Show took Edge out and came after Cena again. Cena went to the ropes and Chavo on the outside grabbed his foot and pulled him out. Cena gave him the "attitude adjustment." Cena got Show locked up in the ropes and then gave Edge the running shoulder block and then gave him the five knuckle shuffle. Vickie got up on the rope and as Edge went for a spear on Cena, Cena moved and he knocked Vickie into Chavo. Show, still locked up in the ropes, screamed at Edge. Show finally got loose and started going off on both Cena and Edge. He set them up in opposite corners and chopped both of them. He then got them in the choke. Cena got out but Edge took the chokeslam. Cena went for the FU but couldn't lock it in. Show went after Edge on the outside. He tried to give Edge a chokeslam onto a table and Edge countered it into a ddt. Edge set up the ring steps as a platform and knocked Show right throw the security barrier at ringside. Edge went back after Cena. He rolled him into the ring and went for a pin. He got a two count. Edge set himself up in the corner calling for the spear. Cena countered it into the STF. Show got back up and pulled Edge to the ropes and knocked out Cena. Show went up to the second rope and went for an elbow drop. Edge rolled out of the way. Cena came back in and went for a suplex. Edge got up and they teamed together for the suplex on Big Show. They teamed up once more to knock Big Show out of the ring and then Edge landed a big boot to Cena's face. Cena fought back into it and got Edge down. He went to the top rope, Big Show pushed him off and Edge landed the spear in mid-air. Edge went for the pin but Show pulled him out of the ring. Show gave him a big chop to the chest. Edge kicked Show in the corner and tried to lock in a sleeper hold. Cena picked both of them up and as Edge got off of Show's back he gave Show the FU. He then turned around and gave Edge the FU onto Show. Edge rolled out of the ring and Cena pinned Show for the win. Cena went into the crowd and celebrated with some of the fans.

WINNER: John Cena in about 15 minutes.

MATCH THOUGHTS: That was a pretty good match. It wasn't anything spectacular, but there was a lot of good action and a nice finishing sequence. You just knew Cena was winning coming into this though.

-They brought out the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2009 to the stage. Austin went to the back right after they announced his name. Then his music hit, he came out on the ATV with his Austin 3:16 shirt. He drove around the ring for a bit and then backed up and got in the ring to salute the fans and do the beer drinking routine. He went down and gave JR a beer and took his hat. He tossed the cooler into the ring. He got in the ring and finished off the beers. Then he got back on the atv to drive up the ramp. Yay, drinking and driving! He stopped on the stage and saluted the crowd with the beers one last time.

8 - RANDY ORTON VS. TRIPLE H (WWE TITLE)

Triple H was walking backstage and came up to Vince and Shane. He just patted Vince on the shoulder and kept walking. Randy went a little extreme with the fake tan tonight. His face is seriously a different color than his torso right now. Hunter's entrance had him break a mirror with the sledgehammer as he looked at his reflection.

Hunter stood mid ring as Orton alked around him. Triple H took Orton down first and then started to attack him in the corner. The ref admonished Triple H saying he didn't want to disqualify him because he'd lose his title. Then out of nowhere Orton hit the RKO. He went to the corner and went for the punt. Triple H moved out of the way and then hit the pedigree. Wow, both finishers within the first two minutes. Orton went to the outside. Hunter ran after him and knocked him to the ground. Triple H grabbed a water bottle from a fan and poured it over his head. He got back at Orton in the ring and pounced on him with Punches. Orton got out of it and went to the outside. Hunter slammed him into the ringpost. Orton got back in and then begged Hunter not to attack. Triple H gave him a boot to the face. He then put him under the bottom rope and sprung him up into it. Hunter sent a bunch of knees into Orton's back. He got him back up and gave some more punishment, including a neck breaker. Orton rolled to the outside again. Hunter tried to grab him and Orton countered it by sending HHH to the steps. He then grabbed him and sent him over the barrier to the timekeeper's spot. Orton gets back into the ring and the referee begins the count. Hunter pulled himself to his feet and got back to the ring at seven. Orton slammed a boot to the gut of Hunter in the ring. Orton drove a knee to the head of HHH and then gave him a boot to the face for a pin attempt. Orton started obliterating Hunter with punches until the referee pulled him off. Orton gave HHH a kick to the gut and went for a sleeper and HHH countered into a slam. Hunter ran at Orton and Orton landed a power slam. He went back to the sleeper hold. HHH got back to his feet but Orton gave him punches in the corner. Hunter started to fight back. They trade punches back and forth and Orton gets him to the rope. Hunter reverses off the ropes and landed the running knee. Hunter then went for the pedigree but Orton got out and catapulted him to the corner. Hunter responded with a clothesline. He set Orton up on the top and looked for a super plex. Orton pulled him off and dropped his head onto the turnbuckle. He dropped down from the second rope but Hunter got the boot up. He went for the pedigree but Orton rolled through for a nearfall. Hunter came back again. He got the slam. Orton again countered a move into a backbreaker. Hunter hit Orton and then went up top. Orton hit him with a dropkick to the face in mid-air. Nice height from Orton on that. Orton surveyed the crowd as he stood over Hunter's body. He backed up as Hunter got to his knees. HHH caught the kick. He brought Orton to the rope and threw him over the top to the outside. He stalked Orton down again. Hit slammed his head on the announce table. He grabbed a monitor but the ref told him he'd be disqualified and would lose the title. He decides to put it down and kick Orton in the side of the head instead. HHH set Orton up on the announce table and went for the pedigree. Orton countered and backdropped him onto the other announce table which did not break. Orton grabbed Hunter and set his legs up on the announce table and ddt'd him to the floor. Vicious move there. Orton got back in the ring and the ref began the count again. Hunter made it back to the ring after a very liberal ten count from the ref, making it in at nine. Orton began stomping away on HHH in the ring. Orton started punching Hunter in the corner again. The crowd seems pretty quiet right now. Orton keeps stomping on Hunter in the corner. Hunter finally tossed a punch. Orton launched HHH into the ref in the corner and then hit an rko. With the ref out, Orton rolled out of the ring and grabbed a sledgehammer from under the ring. Hunter came out of nowhere with the punt to the head as he slowly got in the ring. Hunter grabs the sledgehammer and knocks Orton out with it with no referee seeing it and then he rolls it out of the ring. He gets over to Orton's downed body and starts wailing away with shots as the ref comes over to stop him. It takes a lot from the ref to Hunter off and he screams in anger. He gives Orton the pedigree for the pin and the win.

WINNER: HHH in about 25 minutes.

MATCH THOUGHTS: Underwhelming main event. This should probably have been Orton's match to win, but he's got legs to stand on with Hunter using the sledgehammer and that going against the stipulation. It fell short of what they could have done with it. Michaels/Taker should have gone on last.

-Well thanks for checking out my guest report tonight, I hope it was enjoyable. Now it's time to get over to some MMA action and the WEC show from tonight, so check out that report later tonight. Goodnight everyone!

PWTORCH READER POLL

How will WWE's price raise to $44.95 per PPV event affect you?
I buy many PPVs a year and will continue to do so regardless
I buy a few PPVs a year and will selectively continue despite the price raise
I will cut back somewhat as it seems a little pricey
I will cut back drastically as this feels like gouging
Out of principle and protest, I will stop ordering any other than maybe WM
They had previously priced me out of the market, so this affirms my non-ordering habits
I will order any and all WWE PPVs because price isn't an issue for me
Price doesn't matter. I've been watching pirate feeds for a while
