EVOLVE booker Gabe Sapolsky further explained the changes to the company that will be implemented when EVOLVE reboots for their triple shot in August.

Sapolsky elaborated on the changes on Facebook:

“There will be some changes in EVOLVE. We are going to present quality over quantity. The emphasis will be on singles matches. EVOLVE 25 set the template.

“EVOLVE will return to the roots of everything being about wins and losses, but the updated version will see the DETAILS being the most important thing. HOW did an athlete win or lose? How COMPETITIVE was the match? What was the QUALITY of opponent? It will be simple to follow, but the DETAILS are what counts.

The "Weekend Records" will be compiled and this will determine the Ratings, which will bridge us to the next EVOLVE weekend. The Ratings will be based on the "Weekend Records" but the details will be the tie breakers. This can be subjective and will create debate.”

Radican’s Analysis: The change in philosophy for EVOLVE appears to be an attempt to stand out from the rest of the major independent companies that each fill a certain niche with independent wrestling fans. There isn’t a company running today that does a straight up presentation of pro wrestling as a sport, so I’m interested to see where this goes.

Sapolsky’s comment on EVOLVE 25 is key here, as that show was really good and when it took place earlier this year, I felt it represented what EVOLVE should be all about. For that show, Sapolsky cut down on the number of matches and gave every match on the show time to build and tell a story. Nearly every match on the show led to a satisfying finish.

If Sapolsky is able to run EVOLVE shows going forward based off the EVOLVE 25 template, it is possible that the company could get back on track if the execution of the won-loss records and ratings catch on.

One thing that will be interesting to follow to see how it develops is the emphasis on finishes that lead into the ratings coming out of each EVOLVE weekend. Finishes don’t get emphasized often enough on the independent scene and if Sapolsky can find a way to successfully execute his vision, EVOLVE could begin to generate some momentum.

EVOLVE had a wins-losses system before, but because of the low number of shows the company ran, it was eventually disbanded after EVOLVE 19. I liked the initial concept of EVOLVE when it launched with the same emphasis on wins and losses, but the company seemed to get further and further away from that as time went by.

It’s going to take some time for the company to generate some momentum after being dormant since May. EVOLVE is going to have to run quality shows and their new rankings system is going to have to get over with people that will be skeptical as to whether or not it can work. The idea of more singles matches and doing away with multi-man that are forgotten shortly after they are over is a good start.

EVOLVE has a fantastic talent roster going for it. It’s going to take some time before the company can get people buzzing again, but if Sapolsky’s reboot concept gets over, EVOLVE has a chance to get back on track.
