Rob Van Dam, who is of course known for the five-star frog splash, will be appearing on Saturday night's Hulk Hogan CCW show to teach the remaining contestants how to use and execute a finishing move that fits his or her personality.
RVD initially didn't want anything to do with the celebrity wrestling project, but once he found out what Hogan, Eric Bischoff, and Jason Hervey were trying to produce for TV, he became interested in making a guest appearance.
"It sounded at first like something that I wasn't going to even be interested in being involved in," RVD told Eagle 105.7 radio in Augusta, Ga. "Celebrity wrestling? I've seen David Arquette get in the ring and Jay Leno. And I just thought (at the time), 'they're stepping into my ring and that compromises the integrity of what I'm doing.'"
RVD continued: "But, what they're doing with Hulk Hogan's Championship Wrestling is they get their own ring so the celebrities are competing against each other. It's competition. You better believe it."
RVD's role in Week 5 airing on Saturday is to teach the contestants about finishing moves, but he says Danny Bonaduce didn't seem to want his advice. In the radio interview, RVD gave a complete psycho-analysis of Bonaduce's personality. Greatness.
"He's as crazy as he appears. I knew as soon as I met him, he was sizing me up," RVD said. "And he didn't like that he couldn't intimidate me because I'm bigger than him and I'm Rob Van Dam."
RVD spoke on the Napoleon complex he observed: "When he stood in the ring, I could tell right away that he has a complex because he wants to be the tougher guy."
"It made him want to reach outside of his own body and that's what he does with his personality - it's bigger than his physical frame.
"He's out to test himself, show off, to show everybody that he can take it - if anybody can take it, then he can take it twice as good. So, I expect him to do really well."
Caldwell's Analysis: The interview was pretty much just to promote the Hogan show on Saturday night, but it was good hearing RVD sound refreshed and just enjoying life in California beyond a full-time commitment to the wrestling business. RVD should be a welcome addition to Hogan's show this week.
Of course, this being the wrestling business, RVD was also doing a little business to plant some seeds for the future if something were to materialize with Bonaduce in wrestling where money could be made off a battle of some sort between the two. You can a wrestler out of the business, but you can't take the businessman out of a wrestler.
