Other News: Ric Flair denies rumors of touring in Japan; details on Flair reality show Nov 3, 2008 - 9:31:53 AM
Former WWE spokesman Ric Flair addressed rumors of a potential retirement match in Japan for the annual January 4 Tokyo Dome show and said there is no truth to the stories.
"Absolutely not," Flair told Mike Mooneyham on whether he's considering a match in Japan. "That's just propaganda." Flair said he wouldn't want to tarnish the retirement match he had against Shawn Michaels at this year's WrestleMania.
Flair recently signed a contract with a furniture store in Roanoke, Virginia after an autograph session drew over 3,000 people. He said the store owners handed him an agreement to appear at ten more stores and become a TV spokesman.
He also began filming the pilot episode for a new reality show starring himself and his son, Reid, who will be making his professional wrestling debut in Charlotte on Dec. 7 working a tag match with brother David against the Nasty Boys.
The reality show will focus on two bachelors, Ric and Reid, living it up. As we reported last week, Pink Sneakers Productions is producing the show and they hope to pitch the series to a network later this month with filming to take place in January.
FYI: New Japan's series of Tokyo Dome shows on January 4 has been an annual tradition since 1992. The first Jan. 4 Dome Show featured a New Japan vs. WCW theme with a headline match of Lex Luger vs. Masahiro Chono for the WCW Hvt. Title.
Interestingly enough, Flair has never appeared on a Jan. 4 Dome show. Last year's Dome show focused on New Japan vs. TNA, which drew one of the smallest Dome show crowds in the series history, mainly due to New Japan's lack of drawing power in the wrestling market at the time.
