Other News: Business notes and new theater listings for "Bigger, Stronger, Faster" documentary Jun 6, 2008 - 1:43:48 PM
- Chris Bell's "Bigger, Stronger, Faster" documentary opened in six theaters last weekend. The movie grossed a respectable $31,576 in ticket sales with an average of $5,262 per theater.
The movie will be playing in the same theaters in New York and Southern California as last weekend, and they've added several new showings. We've found the Landmark Hillcrest in San Diego, the Ritz 5 in Philadelphia, the Showcase at Ritz Center in Voorhees, N.J., the Kendall Square Cinema in Cambridge, Mass., and the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, Mass.
- Bell says he wanted to produce the documentary to pose the question of why America has become a society where a quick fix is necessary to do anything. "I wanted to explore why people are doing steroids," Bell told the Washington Post in a significant article on the movie.
Bell also comments on meeting with Sen. Henry Waxman, who was on the key government officials pursuing an investigation of the pro wrestling industry. "I thought it was a fluff interview," says Bell, who insists he was surprised by Waxman's slippery grasp of the facts. "I was asking him simple questions. He totally buried himself, and I didn't mean for that to happen." Washington Post article.
- Bell's documentary was positively reviewed in Wellsville Daily Reporter (N.Y.) with the conclusion that "'Bigger, Stronger, Faster'' left me less eager to condemn the athletes than the society they were reared in, a society that preaches winning isn't everything; it's the only thing."
