Torch Indy Reporter Chris Vetter travels thousands of miles each year to see dozens of indy shows all over the Midwest. His reports covering the entire U.S. Indy Scene are usually published exclusively here at PWTorch.com every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

WEEKEND PREVIEW, NEWS & NOTES

Welcome back! There are several huge indy shows this weekend, as JAPW, AAW and IWC hold their first events of 2008.

The huge show this weekend is Jersey All Pro on Saturday in Jersey City, N.J. The show features Low Ki vs. Hotstuff Hernandez, Homicide vs. Teddy Hart vs. Eddie Kingston, Jay Lethal vs. Chris Hero, Sonjay Dutt vs. Xavier, and Cryme Tyme in action! I’ve seen Ki vs. Hernandez before (they battled in Texas for IWA Mid-South last April), and it was fantastic. Despite their huge size difference, it was quite intense and believable.

AAW, the top drawing promotion in the Midwest, returns to Berwyn, Ill., with Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin vs. Ryan Cruz & Darin Corbin, Jerry Lynn vs. mystery opponent, and matches featuring Arik Cannon and Jimmy Jacobs.

International Wrestling Cartel out of Pittsburgh has a huge show on Saturday, with Sandman defending the IWC title against the man he beat for the strap, Dennis Gregory. Too Cold Scorpio faces Daivari, and Troy Lords will battle Delirious. The full lineup is below, and learn more at www.iwcwrestling.com.

After a hiatus of a few months, UWA Hardcore is back in action tonight in Downsview Park, Canada, with Ruckus vs. Josh Prohibition, BLK OUT vs. Cheech & Cloudy, Delirious vs. Tyler Black, Arik Cannon vs. Ricky Reyes, Lionel Knight vs. Josh Abercrombie. UWA Hardcore had some great shows last spring, but they lost the use of their venue, and it’s great to see they have found a new building and will continue producing shows.

If you want to see the best wrestlers of the 1980s and 1990s hobble around the ring, head to World Wrestling Association on Saturday in Cocoa Beach, Fla. The collection of veteran talent includes Buff Bagwell, Scotty Too Hotty, the Honky Tonk Man, Tatanka, Jimmy Snuka, Demolition, the Powers of Pain, Sid Vicious and Rowdy Roddy Piper.

Talented Pennsylvania wrestler John McChesney (he got destroyed by Umaga on Raw last year) will wrestle for Pro Wrestling Unplugged on Saturday afternoon (2:30 belltime) in Philadelphia, then will fly across the state to wrestle for IWC in Pittsburgh that night.

In other news…

Sylvain Grenier is back on the indy circuit, and he will wrestle for IWS in Canada on Jan. 26. Learn more at www.syndicatewrestling.com.

And you can always reach me with your indy results at chrisjvetter@hotmail.com. I request that you remember to say date, location (including building, city & state!), and full name of the promotion.
