4/1 NEWS: TNA to change name after smash success of first-ever live Impact! Apr 1, 2008 - 2:17:05 PM
Dixie Carter and Jeff Jarrett alerted the media today stating that the company will be changing the name of its company from TNA to a yet undecided acronym.
The reason for the change? Coming off the smashing rating success of its first ever-live Impact, TNA officials decided that the name change would be pivotal in its quest to compete on the same stage as the WWE.
"We feel that TNA is not quite satisfying us in the way we want it to." Says Dixie Carter during the press conference. "We enjoyed all that 'TNA' has to offer, but we feel we can move on to bigger and better things."
The name change will come after a six year run with the name that helped attract a million fans. The promotion will be attempting the same strategy they used when they first started the company in order to attract new fans.
"By hiring former WWE Superstars, we will essentially 'trick' viewers into thinking they have stumbled into WWE programming. By the time they realize that it isn't, it will be too late..." stated the confident Jarrett. "By naming the company TNA, PPVs with names such as Hard Justice, and promising Non-Stop Action, we were able to 'trick' viewers into believing they were watching something different. By the time they realized, it was too late. And I believe, we can do it again."
Rumors across the web have begun to surface on what the new name of the promotion will be. A credible source has stated that one of the names in consideration is National Wrestling Action, homage to the National Wrestling Alliance and the National Wrestling Association before it.
When asked if the Impact name will stay with the new name of the promotion, Carter stated, " Who knows? While we do want to make an Impact in wrestling, we will provide a name for our programming that fits well with our new identity."
When asked if he had any suggestions for a new name for Impact, Jarrett had this to say:
"What comes after lightning?"
