4/1 NEWS: Bush, McCain, Clinton send congratulations to Flair, who still hasn't left the ring, still crying Apr 1, 2008 - 1:44:29 PM
After wrestling his final match at WrestleMania, the tributes to Ric Flair keep coming in from around the country, and the Nature Boy couldn't be more proud.
"I'm touched all these luminaries thought enough of me to send their well wishes," an emotional Flair said Monday from the Amway Arena in Orlando, where WWE wrestlers and fans have lined up to each thank him personally for his years in the ring. "I've been in this ring for the last 15 hours, and I'm not leaving till all these people get a handshake and a Woooo!"
Among those sending tributes was President Bush who released a statement that read in part: "Ric Flair has retired, and I will soon be joining him. Maybe we can start a tag team Gorgeous George and the Nature Man (sic)"
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton called Flair a "WWF legend" and said she and her family fondly recall the days of "Flairmania taking the nation by storm."
John McCain spoke of Flair entertaining the troops in Iraq, and joked he is still looking for a running mate near his own age, saying that a McCain-Flair ticket could take the country to "space mountain and beyond."
When told of McCain's offer, Flair remarked he and McCain could put the "Figure-four on high taxes." The wrestling great then broke down as wrestling greats known as Warlord and Mountie reached the front of the line to thank him.
"I teamed with them at the Survivor Series in 1991. It was the highlight of my career," Flair remarked through his tears.
