RADICAN’S BEYOND WRESTLING REVIEW SERIES
“UNBREAKABLE” (RAW FOOTAGE)
MAY 18, 2014
PROVIDENCE, RI

This is my review of the raw footage of this show. The raw footage is from the hard cam and was shot in HD.

Pre-show match: John Silver vs. Buxx Belmar vs. Stockade vs. Latin Dragon. Good action packed opener. Stockade didn't do a ton here, but he did hit some impressive big man spots. Silver looked good in this match and Belmar was his usual disgusting self throughout the match. Silver won with a sunset bomb on Stockade.

(2) Kevin Steen vs. Biff Busick. The match hadn't been going long when The Young Bucks came out and hit a double superkick on Busick. Team Tremendous then came out and made the save. Dan Barry got on the mic and challenged Steen and the Young Bucks to a Six Man Tag main event and they accepted.

(3) Kimber Lee vs. Drew Gulak. Gulak continually worked over Lee with submissions during the match. Gulak was methodical and Lee couldn't get any offense going. Lee finally surprised Gulak with a rollup for a near fall, but
Gulak got up and nailed her with a huge boot to the face. The crowd got behind Lee, who refused to give up. Lee hit a German suplex, but Gulak kicked out at 1 and went right back on the attack. The fans chanted "You can't beat her" at Gulak. Lee mounted a comeback and hit a big kick and a brainbuster, but Gulak kicked out at 1 again. Gulak smiled at Lee after they exchanged slaps and dragged her to the middle of the ring. Lee suddenly took his leg out from under him and got a bridging pin for the win.

Gulak talked about Lee's journey from Seattle to Philadelphia to pursue dance on her own. He said her dance instructor told her she didn't have what it takes and she ended up at the CZW Wrestling Academy. Gulak said he wanted to tell her as one of her trainers that she is not a failure. The fans popped huge. Gulak said she was lucky to beat him, but she has what it takes to represent women. Gulak said he knew she would be a great example on this business. The fans chanted for Lee and Gulak shook hands with her. The ref then raised her hand and she appeared to be crying.

This match told an awesome story. The wrestler commentary was horrid, so hopefully the dubbed commentary does this match justice. This was an unexpectedly great student vs. teacher match. (****)

(4) Aaron Epic & Kris Pyro & Angel Ortiz &Tommy Trainwreck & Sugar Dunkerton vs. Dave Cole &Davey Cash & Mike Draztik & Devin Blaze &Pinkie Sanchez in an
Atomicos Incredibles match. This match is a five on five match, but the twist is that it's five different tag teams spit into two different teams. The match started with Dunkerton telling Epic that he's no fun, so his team was going to leave him. Everyone except Cole and Epic left the ring. Music began playing and the wrestlers started a Conga line through Fete Music, which was awesome. Dunkerton rolled back into the ring and Cole jumped him to start the match. This was a fun match with some eye-popping sequences. Most of the match was about Dunkerton and Epic not getting along. Epic ended up stealing the pin from Dunkerton on Cole after Dunkerton hit Cole with a running knee strike. Epic and Dunkerton ended up arguing after the match. (**1/2)

Nicholas Kaye came out and cut a promo. He said he wanted to reclaim the tag division that had be one a joke. Anthony Stone then came out and went to town on Mike Quest ad Kaye with a chair. Several people finally separated Stone from Kaye.

(5)Tomasso Ciampa vs. Jaka. The match started slow, but eventually picked up
with some big exchanges and both guys hitting power moves. Ciampa hit a top rope kryptonite crunch at or point for a near call that really got the crowd going. Jaka tried to go up top late in the match, but Ciampa slipped under him and hit project Ciampa for the win. (**3/4)

After the match, Ciampa teased showing Jaka respect and then nailed him with a big knee lift to the jaw and flipped him the double bird.

(6) Juicy Product (J.T. Dunn & David Starr w/Shelly Martinez) vs. The Colony
(Fire Ant & Green Ant). The Colony tagged in and out to work over Dunn once the action settled down. Starr got the hot tag and ran wild on Fire Ant and after a flurry of chops he nailed him with a neck breaker for a 2 count. The action broke down and Green Ant ended up getting Starr in an arm bar, but Dunn broke up the pin.

The action was insane and at one point Starr caught Fire Ant going for a dive
and placed him over the stage for a running attack off the apron from Dunn, but Green Ant cut him off. Dunn accidentally hit Starr with the KO elbow. Green Ant got Dunn in the CHIKARA special, but Starr managed to fend off Fire Ant to team up the submission. Juicy Product nailed Fire Ant with a flurry of maneuvers capped by a KO elbow from Dunn on Fire Ant for the win. This was awesome. (***3/4)

Dunn got on the mic after the match and said he had some unfinished business. He said Beyond Wrestling was coming back and he was going to put his tag belts aside for a second. Dunn said he would be facing Chris Hero and the fans were split chanting for Dunn and Hero.

T.J. Marconi opened the second half of the show cutting a promo inside the ring. He said Beyond Wrestling has lowered itself to naming a show after an ROH wrestler. Carter got on the mic and said this is the day that Beyond Wrestling had betrayed itself. Carter said changes would come courtesy of he and Marconi. Carter said they weren’t leaving the ring until they got some competition. Taber

(7) Crusade for Change (Darius Carter & T.J. Marconi) vs. Tabernak De Team (Mathieu St. Jacques & Thomas Dubois). Marconi tried to save Carter for a double team during the early going, but Tabernak De Team nailed both men with a pair of dives through the ropes. Crusade for Change got the upper hand and worked over St. Jacques arm for a long period of time. St. Jacques mounted a comeback, but Marconi dragged Dubois off the ring apron. Dubois got the hot tag and ran wild on Marconi and Carter after hitting a missile dropkick that connected with both men. The action broke down and St. Jacques hit a big moonsault on Carter while Dubois held his legs. St. Jacques went for the cover, but the ref wouldn’t count the pin because he wasn’t the legal man. The action was really good down the stretch. Carter and Marconi ended up isolated St. Jacques and they nailed him with a pop up/European uppercut combination for the win. It was easy to see that Crusade for Change has improved in the ring, but I was surprised to see TDT lose this match. The crowd was not happy with the result either.

Michael Bennett came out and tried to cut a promo, but Michael Elgin’s music interrupted him. They’ve been doing a storyline where Bennett has been running down Beyond Wrestling on Twitter, but Elgin has stood up to him in defense of Beyond Wrestling. Elgin came out to a big pop from the fans, but some fans also chanted for Bennett as well. Bennett told Elgin when he beats him; he’ll actually get paid at Beyond Wrestling. Elgin grabbed the mic and said the fans didn’t pay to hear him talk; they paid to see him wrestle. Elgin said he feels like changing people’s perceptions tonight. He said fans seemed to think Bennett can’t wrestle and Elgin can’t talk. Elgin talked about how he wasn’t told to cut a promo tonight. Elgin said he was sick of being told what to say about his opponents. Elgin said on his worst day any man that calls himself a wrestler would have a hard time lacing his boots. Elgin says every time he gets in the ring, he feels at home. Elgin said he can try to show the people he can wrestle, but he is going to show him how nice the ceiling at Fete Music is when he pins his shoulders to the mat. This was a strong promo from Elgin.

(8) Michael Bennett vs. Michael Elgin. Bennett tried to take Elgin down with a shoulder tackle off the ropes during the early going. He tried several times and failed. Elgin teased going down and ended up throwing a crotch chop at Elgin. The crowd chanted, “Suck his d---.” Elgin got Bennett in a long delayed vertical suplex. The fans began counting the time and slamming the mat in unison. Elgin finally dropped Bennett after the fans had counted to 60 before covering him for a 2 count. Bennett finally countered Elgin and hit a belly to back suplex to get the upper hand. Elgin tried to go for a deadlift vertical suplex on Bennett, who was on the apron, but Bennett crotched him on the ropes and hit a neck breaker. They went at it on the outside. Bennett set up Elgin against the post that is situated in the middle of Fete Music, but Elgin got out of the way and Bennett went face-first into the post. They battled around the ring and Bennett got the upper hand before tossing Elgin back into the ring.

Bennett hummed Edge’s theme and went for a spear, but Elgin countered. They exchanged counters and Elgin hit a series of forearms. They went to a big exchange off the ropes and Elgin connected with an enzuguri. He followed up with a German with a bridge, but only got a 2 count. The crowd fired up chanting for both men. They went to another exchange and Bennett hit the spear for a nearfall. Bennett went for a piledriver and Elgin tried to flip him over. Bennett went for a pin, but Elgin deadlifted him and hit a power bomb. Bennett countered the buckle bomb, but Elgin hit a code breaker off the second rope a short time later. Bennett fired right back with a TKO, but only got a 2 count. The crowd fired up again and chanted for both men. Bennett set up for a piledriver on the apron. Elgin countered and nailed Bennett with a big kick to the head. Elgin and Bennett battled up top. Elgin fought Bennett off and hit a big elbow off the top for a 2 count. The fans fired up and chanted, “This is awesome.” Elgin hit a big forearm to the back of Bennett’s head. Elgin dragged Bennett along the apron and set him up for the deadlift vertical suplex and he connected this time as the fans gasped. Elgin covered Bennett, but he kicked out at the last second.

Bennett ducked another enzuguri attempt from Elgin and hit a pair of superkicks. Bennett connected with a piledriver, but Elgin kicked out at one and spit in Bennett’s face. The fans went nuts and Bennett went right after Elgin and applied the anaconda vice. Elgin managed to power up to his feet, but Bennett maintained the hold and took him back down to the mat. Elgin managed to roll over and he countered Bennett into the crossface. The fans chanted for Bennett to tap. Bennett struggled, but shifted his weight on top of Elgin for a 2 count. Bennett pulled the ref in front of him. Elgin pulled up short and moved the ref out of the way, which allowed Bennett to hit a low blow. Bennett went for a GTS, but Elgin countered it into a buckle bomb. Bennett followed up with the Elgin bomb for the win. This was a fantastic match with a great atmosphere. This was Michael Bennett’s best match to date. (****)

The fans started a Beyond Wrestling chant after the match. Denver Colorado got into the ring and handed Elgin his pay envelope with Elgin and Bennett’s pay in it. Colorado said the last time he had an opportunity to give someone a token of his appreciation; it was to Eddie Edwards, who had moved on to bigger and better things. The fans chanted “F--- TNA.” Colorado said Elgin had taken Edwards’s place and taken Beyond Wrestling to bigger and better things. He then presented Elgin with an Elgin bomb plaque. Chris Dickinson ended up entering the ring and the fans chanted for both men. Dickinson asked how the fans were doing in Providence and the fans chanted cheap pop at him. Dickinson said the Elgin bomb portrait looked like a dildo. Elgin said it was a true to scale picture of the Elgin junk. Dickinson asked Elgin who he had really beat in Beyond Wrestling. He asked Colorado if Elgin was really carrying Beyond Wrestling. Dickinson said Elgin was nothing in Beyond Wrestling until he beat him. Elgin got on the mic and said he didn’t need to make faces to make people think he’s tough. Elgin said he had beat Jaka and Jimmy Jacobs. He said it was a fact that Dickinson had sent them in his place. Elgin said it was time for him to step up. Dickinson asked Elgin if he would be at Beyond Wrestling next month. Elgin said he wouldn’t be at the next show, but he was willing to fight right now. Colorado asked for some officials to come down to the ring. He said they aren’t going to do it tonight or next month. Colorado announced that they will do it in July at “Americanrana 2014.” Colorado mentioned that it would be the first time they faced off. Elgin told the fans to get their tickets for July 27 because he would show that the dirty daddy ain’t nothing but a little b----.

The ring announcer announced the next show would take place on June 22 with Brian Cage making his debut. He also announced that Chris Hero and Colt Cabana would be on the next show.

Kevin Steen came out dressed in Young Bucks attire. The fans chanted for the Young Bucks.

(9) The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) & Kevin Steen vs. Team Tremendous (Bill Carr & Dan Barry) & Biff Busick. Team Tremendous and Busick charged the ring and everyone brawled to the outside to begin the match. Matt hit a big flip dive off the VIP stage to wipe out Team Tremendous and Busick and the fans went nuts. Both teams brawled around the venue and Dan Barry hit a cannonball to the floor onto everyone. Holy crap! The fans went nuts for that spot, which was insane. Barry got Steen inside the ring and began interrogating him. He then brought in the bad cop, Bill Carr. Carr continued the interrogation before nailing him with a big overhand chop. Barry ended up in the wrong part of town and took an enzuguri off the apron from Matt before Steen nailed him with a DDT through the ropes. Matt hit a back rake on Barry. Steen then crotched down on Matt’s crotch while Matt was on his back throwing crotch chops at Carr and Busick. Steen and The Young Bucks continued to work over Barry and the fans fired up. Carr ducked a kick from Nick on the apron, who ended up hitting Matt. He then fought off Steen and hit a DDT off the second rope on nick. Barry finally made the hot tag to Busick, who ran wild with European uppercuts on the Young Bucks. Busick hit a big dive to the floor on the Young Bucks after tagging in Carr. The big man Bill Carr then hit a huge flip dive to the floor on the Young Bucks and got up and hit several crotch chops in their face.

Carr set up Steen for a big move, but the Young Bucks dished out a superkick part on him. They then hit a double superkick on Barry. Busick tried to come off the top, but ate another superkick from the Young Bucks. The fans went nuts after a big sequence on Barry that resulted in a nearfall. Steen went up top and the fans went nuts. Steen went for a swanton, but Barry got his knees up and tagged in Busick. Busick countered the package piledriver and hit a huge half and half suplex on Steen. He went for a half and half on Nick, but he hit a low blow. The Young Bucks fired up and dished out another superkick party, but Carr fended them off and hit a huge double clothesline. Carr got got Nick up on his shoulders and they hit doomsday sliced bread on Nick, but Matt broke up the pin at the last second. This action is incredible. Steen hit a huge pop-up powerbomb on Carr. Barry ran in and Steen nailed him with a big sleeper suplex and Nick covered him, but Barry kicked out at one. Barry went for a springboard moonsault, but the Young Bucks hit him with a double superkick. Steen nailed Barry with the package piledriver and The Young Bucks and Steen nailed Barry with the triple IndyTaker for the win. Holy crap that was amazing. The fans covered the ring with streamers after the Young Bucks and Steen won the match. (****1/4)

The fans continued to go crazy chanting for The Young Bucks. Matt got on the mic and said he had been getting tweets and messages about a couple of marks that want to be like The Young Bucks. He said doing superkicks and acting like they’re the best in the world was their thing. Matt asked them to come down to the ring. Dunn & Starr came down to the ring. Matt started to talk, but they got laid out by a pair of superkicks from Dunn and Starr. The fans went nuts and chanted “Holy s---.” The fans then chanted, “This is your house.” Starr got on the mic and said on July 27, it would be The Young Bucks vs. Juicy Product. This was a great segment to set up Juicy Product vs. The Young Bucks. The Young Bucks recovered and the fans popped for them once again.

Overall thoughts: (8.5) This was a fantastic show from top to bottom. There wasn’t a bad match on the show and the crowd was red hot for almost all of the action throughout the night. The undercard featured a standout match between Kimber Lee and Drew Gulak, but the second half of the show tore it up with two great matches between Bennett and Elgin and The Young Bucks & Steen vs. Team Tremendous & Busick.

The highlight of the undercard was Lee-Gulak. The match told a great story with Gulak, who is Lee’s mentor, being in total control of the match. The fans got behind Lee early and never gave up even though she couldn’t mount any offense on Gulak, who dominated her on the mat and with power moves. When Lee got the rollup pin in the end, the crowd exploded. Gulak’s post-match speech was incredible. It felt real and emotion when he told her as her mentor that she is not a failure. Lee showed genuine emotion during the speech and the fans ate it up.

The second half of the show was carried by three matches that were all good to great. Crusade for Change has clearly improved and it showed in their match with Tabernak De Team. They wrestled a really smart match and ended up getting the win in the end after working over St. Jacques for most of the match. I was surprised by the result, but when guys like Marconi and Carter improve to this level, it is impressive.

Elgin-Bennett was the second great match on this card. The crowd was red hot after the pre-match promo exchange and these two went out and had a great physical match. The fans went crazy for Elgin’s power spots and the crowd was split between Elgin and Bennett for the entire match. I really enjoyed Bennett humming Edge’s theme while setting up Elgin for a spear only to have Elgin catch him in mid-air. They built the match around Bennett trying to hit Elgin with his piledriver and when he finally hit it and Elgin kicked out at one the fans went crazy again. This was the best Michael Bennett match I’ve seen and I really enjoyed seeing him out there performing with no restrictions.

The main event of The Young Bucks & Steen vs. Team Tremendous & Busick was set up at the beginning of the show and they delivered the best match on the card. Barry’s dive off the balcony to the floor during the opening stages of the match was insane and the crowd was red hot throughout the entire match. If you like high-octane wrestling, The Young Bucks have been on an insane roll lately and they were awesome in this match. I think Team Tremendous is criminally underrated and it was a blast to see them get the chance to shine in the main event against the Young Bucks. This is a match well-worth going out of your way to see.

The show also did a good job of setting up future matches now that Beyond Wrestling is running every month. It looks like Chris Hero vs. J.T. Dunn in a rematch from “Critical Acclaim” will headline the Beyond Show in June. They also announced matches for July because they won’t be able to use ROH talent in June because they’re running on the same day as the ROH PPV. July’s event has two huge matches that were set up on this show with Elgin-Dickinson and Juicy Product-Young Bucks being set up and announced here.

I want to see the DVD of this show, as the hard camera doesn’t always offer the best angle on the action on the raw footage version. The raw footage is certainly worth going out of your way to check out, as you won’t miss much of the action outside of a couple of brawling segments that didn’t get picked up. There’s also wrestler commentary as well to highlight the action. Beyond Wrestling has a great thing going at Fete Music and this show was every bit as good as my favorite Beyond Wrestling show “Americanrana.”
