Ontario, Calif.
Report by Shane Barter, PWTorch reader

My son and I had floor seats near the front. Something I did not think of: floor seats are tough for kids, as they have a hard time seeing past people in front of them. Live and learn!

It has been a long time since I attended a house show. They have really improved the entrance ramp, audio, and videos. Another thing that stood out is the number of girls in the crowd, with many Team Bella shirts and Divas belts. This is a great change in WWE, and hopefully represents a foundation for ongoing changes in the Divas division.

There is a steel cage above the ring...it probably means nothing, right?

We begin with a ten-bell salute to the Rowdy One, Roddy Piper.

Byron Saxton informed the crowd that John Cena cannot wrestle tonight, sending hundreds of children into shock. On cue, Kevin Owens stormed out, pointing out how he worked through a broken nose. Owens said there will be no main event and he is going home, until Chris Jericho came out to a nice reaction. It is wonderful having veterans like Y2J handy to fill in main event spots. Some kids were asking who he is, though. Owens said that Ontario is a crappy city, which the crowd boo'd (I assume because 'city' is a bit inaccurate, but they have their own airport!). Jericho spotted the cage and the main event was set!

(1) The Bellas (Divas champion Nikki & Brie Bella) beat B.A.D. (Naomi & NXT Women's champion Sasha Banks w/Tamina). This was a good match, although the audience was not sure who to cheer for. Naomi's lighted boots matched Jericho's jacket.

(2) Neville beat Bo Dallas with the Red Arrow. Nice reaction for Bo - there were "Bo-lieve" (or "Bo-leave?") chants.

(3) Cesaro beat King Barrett. My kid went nuts for Cesaro, but refused to believe me that the 'King of Swing' name is because he likes playgrounds.

(4) WWE tag champions Prime Time Players (Titus O'Neil & Darren Young) beat New Day to retain the WWE Tag Titles. This was probably the longest match of the night. New Day are really wonderful - their skipping is weird and they do a great job clapping and stomping to generate "New ... Day Sucks" chants against them. After the match, Titus and D-Young signed autographs and took pictures.

[Intermission - t-shirt cannon and lots of pressure to join the WWE Network.]

(5) Rusev (w/Summer Rae) beat R-Truth. My money was on Truth. Why is R-Truth still doing 1993's 'Whoomp There it is" bit? He's not even in a tag team. The match featured Summer Rae getting involved, Lana coming out to a huge reaction to check her, and Rusev winning really quickly anyway.

The Miz came out to say that Ontario sucks. He then cut a promo that he would have defeated Ryback and Big Show, neither of which are here tonight. Big Show came, punched out The Miz, and left. Strange segment.

(6) Chris Jericho beat Kevin Owens in a steel cage main event. Jericho won with the Codebreaker. A fun match. There was one great spot where Owens was in the Walls of Jericho and nearly crawled out of the cage door. For some reason, "USA" chants started for Jericho. I guess Owens's accent "marks him as different," but this is no reason to cheer a Manitoban.

All told, a decent show. The split roster dilutes things a bit, but it is still a fun time. Classic heel/face stuff.
