WWE Live house show results
February 1, 2015
Loveland, Colo. at the Budweiser Events Center
Report by PWTorch Collectibles specialist Michael Moore

I would guess there were 3,000 to 4,000 people there. The floor was mostly full with a few of the back rows empty, and most of the upper rows were empty. This was pretty much the same house show they ran the last two nights in New Mexico, with some variations.

This was definitely a family/kids crowd who ate up everything they were served with very little rebelling. There was one group of older male fans who tried to get some chants going, but they were drowned out all night.

(1) Daniel Bryan beat Bray Wyatt. Odd to see Bryan in the opening match, but he definitely got the crowd going. He had them engaged throughout the match and got the second biggest pop of the night next to John Cena. The usual match from these two, which is certainly a very good house show match. Bryan got the win with the running knee.

(2) New Day beat Goldust & Stardust. Exactly the same as the previous two nights in New Mexico, according to Torch results. Cody did the same heel mic work, and Xavier Woods called the Dust Bros. "so cheap, they don't even have the WWE Network, and it's only $9.99." Emphatic boos prompted people to look at me as if I had said something profane.

(3) Natalya beat Alicia Fox via submission with the Sharpshooter. Very interesting dynamic with the crowd. There were a lot of little girls who were really into Nattie. WWE could really have something there if they would take their women's (not Divas) matches seriously.

(4) Dolph Ziggler beat IC champion Bad News Barrett in a non-title match. Barrett did the same "Dolph was just re-hired, so he doesn't get a title match" shtick. Dolph won with a superkick and a Zig-Zag in a good match. There weren't many signs there, but for some reason a guy held up a sign that read "I'm a Jim Cornette Guy" throughout this match. Okay...

[Intermission]

(5) Los Matadores beat Curtis Axel & Fandango. My son's "I Came Here to See Curtis Axel" sign got some laughs. Most of the crowd was coming back from the break and was dead during this match. The biggest reaction came when Fandaxel teased fighting each other and then hugged. Matadores won with a roll-up. No Titus O'Neil or Sin Cara tonight for six-man tag action. O'Neil ended up being at the Super Bowl in Arizona.

(6) Dean Ambrose beat Luke Harper. Pretty good match between these two. Ambrose got a huge reaction coming out, but the crowd reaction was pretty lukewarm after that. Ambrose won with the Dirty Deeds.

(7) John Cena beat Seth Rollins in a Street Fight. Cena and Rollins worked their butts off and put on a fantastic main event. Anyone who only watches WWE on TV and complains about Cena still being pushed so hard doesn't understand how over he is with families and casual fans. Even the majority of adult males were cheering for him. No "Cena Sucks" chants here. Cena pulled out a table and one of the legs immediately fell off, which made me think there would be an audible on the finish. But, Cena put Rollins through that table propped up in the corner and later in the match hit an AA off the second rope through another table for the win, just like at the previous house shows. Rollins is absolutely fantastic in the ring and on the mic. My son, who is a big fan of Rollins asked me, "Why do people keep booing him and chanting, 'You Sold Out?'" I told him it's because Rollins is very good at his job.

Overall thoughts: My last WWE house show was just a little over three years ago in this same building. The building was much fuller last time, but that probably has more to do with this being a matinee show on Super Bowl Sunday more than anything else. The biggest change was the price in tickets. In October 2011, tickets in the first five rows were $55; this time they were $95. I'm not sure how families of four and five are plunking down $450-600 just for tickets to a matinee house show, but apparently they are.

The Denver market has definitely changed over the years. I grew up in the area and it was a very pro-AWA crowd. When the AWA went away, so did a lot of wrestling fans. The WWF struggled to fill buildings for a long time. I went to a Denver house show in 1996 that included Undertaker, Mankind, Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin (one week before the Austin 3:16 promo), and a rare Ultimate Warrior vs. Vader match, and that show only drew 1,500 max. This show was almost all families and kids spending lots of money on tickets and even more at the merch stand.
