WWE Supershow results
August 16, 2014
San Jose, Calif.
Report by Amir Khostavan, PWTorch reader

On Saturday, WWE hosted their "dry run" of Summerslam at the SAP Center (formally HP Pavilion) in San Jose. For a house show, there was a very decent sized crowd, with the floor sold out, and the upper sections of the arena looking pretty full.

(1) Dean Ambrose pinned Seath Rollins. Awesome opening contest, with stiff hits and crowd-pleasing maneuvers (Ambrose superplexed Rollins). These guys did not hold back and went full speed for about 15 minutes. The finish came when Rollins took off the turnbuckle pad. As the ref took the pad from Rollins and tried to put it back on the turnbuckle, Rollins went outside to retrieve the Money In the Bank briefcase. Before Rollins could use it, the ref snagged it away from him, which allowed Ambrose to hit his Dirty Deeds finished for the win.

(2) Adam Rose pinned Heath Slater. There was apparently a fan vote to see whether this would be a regular match or a dance-off. With 51 percent of the vote, it was a regular match. Rose came out with about six "Rosebuds" (including the bunny guy). Slow start to the match as the guys posed for the crowd a bit before getting into it. Rose won with the Party Foul. Interesting note: Rose left the ring first and his music stopped. Slater then made his way up the ramp and stopped for a brief moment as the crowd cheered him on.

(3) Rob Van Dam & Big E. beat Ryback & Cesaro. In the battle of the singlets (minus Cesaro), these guys had a pretty entertaining tag match. One spot had Ryback and Cesaro tag in/out six or seven times in about a minute, while each took turns kicking Big E. while he was down in the corner. Cesaro teased a Big Swing before doing something else, garnering good heat. RVD got the hot tag and won with the Five-Star Frogsplash.

(4) Rusev beat Jack Swagger via submission. Lana did her usual spiel on the way to the ring. Swagger then entered the arena with Zeb Colter and Colter countered Lana's anti-America comments. Slow match with a lot of restholds and power moves. Swagger locked on the Patriot Lock, but Rusev reached the ropes. Shortly after, Rusev locked on The Accolade. At first Swagger lifted Rusev while still in the Accolade, but Rusev overpowered him and Swagger eventually tapped.

(5) Chris Jericho pinned Bray Wyatt with Ric Flair as special guest referee. Flair received a huge ovation upon his entrance, and strutted for the crowd a little. Wyatt then made his entrance before Jericho, who also received a great reaction. This was a great hard-hitting match that was a lot of fun. Both wrestlers mimicked Flair at the beginning of the match, with Jericho doing the strut. Multiple times throughout the contest, Wyatt got in Flair's face, only for Flair to retaliate in various Flair-like ways. Finally, Wyatt pushed Flair, resulting in Flair chopping Wyatt a couple times before Jericho hit the Codebreaker for the win.

(6) Natalya & Layla beat Paige & Rosa Mendes. Great reaction for both Natalya and Paige who started the match together and delivered. These two need to do a program together after Paige is finished with A.J. Lee - they traded technical moves and pins left and right! Natalya got a submission win via Sharpshooter on Rosa.

(7) Roman Reigns pinned Randy Orton. Match of the Night, as these two held back nothing. HARD hitting match. Orton in particular was in great form tonight as he played to the crowd throughout the entire contest, garnering massive heat. After every couple moves he posed and talked to the crowd, eventually leading to an opening for Reigns who hit the Superman Punch and the Spear to huge reactions.

Jimmy Hart was then introduced ot set up a video package on Hulk Hogan. After a few minutes, the Immortal One himself made his way to the ring to the biggest reaction of the night. Hogan got on the mic and delivered his usual lines, pimping out the "WWE 2K15" video game, the Network, and WrestleMania 31 (at the nearby Levi's stadium). He also said that he has one more match in him and we should expect to see him in the ring sometime "soon."

(8) WWE World Hvt. champion John Cena beat Kane in a San Jose Street Fight to retain the WWE World Hvt. Title. By the end of the night, Cena got the biggest reaction. Pretty typical Cena match as he started out strong, before Kane got the upper hand. A couple of cool "Street Fight" moves including the guys setting up the steps vertically on the ramp (Cena threw Kane into them), and Cena hit the AA on a table to seal the win over Kane.

Cena then got on the mic and hyped Summerlam tomorrow and especially hyped WrestleMania 31. The pre-sale password for tickets to WM31 is SAN JOSE, but the pre-sale will be "in the fall," not right now.

Overall, awesome show and definitely worth the money to see Flair and Hogan alone. Reigns-Orton and Ambrose-Rollins were great and I can't wait to see how they switch things up tomorrow night at SummerSlam.
